Co-authoring myself. My final Clock movie. Nice to get that monkey off my back. Please review!

Commentary : The dream sequence was not part of the original movie. It was a little animation I was messing with for fun and didn't think I'd do anything with it but I hate for anything to go to waste so I slapped it on and added it to the plot. A lot of stuff were additions. This didn't really ever have a complete script.

Lots of stuff for Seinfeld fans too.

Was there anyone actually waiting for this? If my experience here is any indication, probably not too many. Submitting the preview sort of bummed me out and I was thinking no one would really care about more revisions anyway, and it was hard to work on after that so here it is, as is.

People who actually have watched my clock movies (that's right all 5 of you!), you know I preferred in this respect to create verbal satire (as you can tell by reading this) then violence and drama. I'd rather homage clocks that have done those sort of large scale epics before rather then actually doing it myself. I riddled my previous movies with in jokes and characters that have come from previous efforts but stopped short at blatant rip off. I suppose you can call it parody (or laziness) but it just wouldn't feel clock crew to me if I hadn't.

Let me get off that train of thought and wrap this up before my grammar gets worse,

The reason this will be my last Clock movie has nothing to do with "drama" or whatever. I started it a year ago but let it stagnate along with a few other projects. Picking it up again then taking a hike was always the plan. Recent events however, had persuaded me to work on this more aggressively. It seemed like the right time to leave the house that spam built. I don't think I'd ever finish had I not! How ironic. I'm still aggravated by a lot of the aspects of the community and from what I've seen things have not really improved but I'm glad I decided not to be spiteful and turn this flash into some sort of character attack, although I had toyed with the idea. A bit of that may have made it to the final flash but all in all it's not the focus of it.

i wish i could be a clock and make cool movies like this... :(

Author's Response:

well. humm. ... Just start really small with basic tutorials. Don't try anthing ambitious until you get the hang of the program and even then I would NOT recommend it. Anyway, thanks for the review and if you did join the clock crew there's no law saying you can't lurk through their animation and art forum to help you get somewhere. It's too bad it's not done more often. It's really what most everyone should do there if they want to make flash or art. Everyone starts somewhere. Although I left a while ago, I'm sure if you're not a pest you shouldn't have a problem and you're bound to learn something.

well done

you honestly made me laugh

and for clock crew thats a step up

make a better one and quit clock crew there only dragging you down

October 5, 2009

Author's Response:

I'm sure you genuinely believe you are being kind with your advice.

In actuality you are just spewing the same old redundant, ignorant, and quite frankly, nasty bias I come to expect from Newgrounds.

It really is completely inline with the thinking here. Is that why you assume I would agree?

For some reason to actually have something nice to say about anything related to the clock crew makes the kiddies here want to kill themselves. So they instead write reviews that sound more like apologies for, just once, not towing the line.

Look if it makes you feel more comfortable reviewing the newest sonic mario sprite or something else that people here suck up to, then go do so. I think it's better then being patronizing.

The Clock crew, at least in theory, doesn't care about being popular or mainstream. Bottom line is, they make flash to amuse themselves. That usually means annoying you. Why? Because people are dumb and gullible enough to be angered by them in the first place.

So instead of whining about clock crew and feeling bad for me for making a 'good clock movie' maybe you should be giving them more credit for inspiring me to make something you enjoyed instead. Cause there is a lot of history in this, and in that sense, I couldn't of done it without better movies that came before.

I know you don't know any better and you meant this to be encouraging and I apologize if I offend you with my bluntness but, to be honest, my first gut reaction to this review was "fuck you".

I just had to go and write all this shit instead. I guess I can't help myself.

And well, I sorta left the clock crew before I put this out. But if there is anything "dragging me down" it would be this kind of attitude. That would be more the reason I would stop making anything for anyone, not clock crew.

"I don't know how I missed this."

I loved it. It did lag a bit at parts but not enough to screw up the dialogue and it was funny. It's too bad to see you gone, you're a good animator and a nice guy, but it's understandable that you're not pleased with the current climate at .cc. If you're interested, a few of us are putting together a site with more of a focus on getting things done than meaningless discussion. There's a link to it in my most recent news post. It'd be good to have you on board if you've got the time and desire.

Anyway, great job. I'll be keeping track of your future work, clock related or not.

April 30, 2008

Author's Response:

Well I'm glad you liked the dialog. I figured you would appreciate something like that. From what I know of your movies, you're much more into story then most authors. I really don't want to get involved with any websites at the moment. I am easily distracted when I'm online and am trying to focus on a flash I'm working on. Just another reason to cut ties. Not that they have to be totally severed and not that it's always personal. I can keep in contact with anyone who wishes so. I just need some time.

My wish for the clock crew is that they don't let their egos, their cynicism, their drama or any sort of sardonic condescension between members stop them from creating, looking for new ideas and outlets to express themselves less by posting and more with art.

Hell, to me even drama is a great reason to make a flash. When you look back, things you thought were a big deal, aren't as important as you remembered.

Also I wish I wasn't a nice guy. Or maybe felt more willing to speak my mind on things that sometimes leads to negative attention that I would sooner avoid. I have the utmost respect for those who can tolerate criticism and learn from it. That's something else I hope will continue and grow. Just plan honesty. It seems cold but people who stick around after being ragged on and learn from it are worth the effort. Not all the time but most. Maybe anyone who stuck around does sometimes. And now I'm rambling. O well. Thanks for the review. ;) Good luck!

Honestly I could never think of making this longer. It was supposed to be a short at the start. I just couldn't be that motivated other then making it better then my other clock movies.

"Grand"

I'm reminded, in scope, of RomanCollar's "Clock Day Ajudication" which was also very big, long and had a boatload of characters and jokes to keep things rolling. It's too bad the filters tend to bog down playback a lot - I'd advise either toning down filters, or saving backgrounds (with filters) as still images and import them, so the filters don't have to be rendered live when the swf is played. I love the references to classic Clock movies and of course Seinfeld.

If you're disappointed with the amount of response you got (this must've taken a lot of work after all), it may in part be to blame on the movie, from the outside (in title and title screen, plus the trailer), looking like a more serious Clock movie, which some Newgrounders seem to dislike and avoid. Having that twist from serious to funny might be jarring for people. Anyway, kudos on your hard work and I recommended it for the collection.

Author's Response:

Unfortunately for me I figured out how to best manage being a filter whore and the lag it creates in flash only after I submitted it. A bit too late but o well live and learn as time goes on and I am learning a lot surprisingly. Thanks for the review. It's just no fun without one from you. :'(
