Author Comments

This is my first movie, so please don't crucify me comment-wise.

Okay, well I guess you can just be honest but at least give me some feedback about how to improve.

NOTE:
It's a film movie, shot and edited in half a day. Quality very compressed because it is 6:32 in length.

Reading from the other reviews and your own replies, I have to say that you did pretty well for a first try. If you COULD get it fixed up, re-edited, and possibly try to include a few things and/or re-doing a few parts, I would definitely LOVE to watch and review it.
Your video for the most part was not bad, but it felt as if the beginning/intro was pushing a lot to tell us something was going to happen, but happened much later on after the suspense had died down a bit. The drama looks pretty nice, and the fight was kool as well, but yeah, add some sounds other than music, I think it'd be an awesome short film. The camera angles were almost brilliant at some points, the fights were pretty good, and I would possibly understand a BIT more if I could hear something other than music, lol.
All in all, this "test" vid was good, and I'm really expecting the real deal when you're done.

"well..."

date: January 20, 2008

the camera angles were fantastic, a little shaky, but well done. Of course the quality of this video was not up to par, and some scenes were difficult to make out.

i seriously would recommend you -at least- place some gunshot sound FX in there, because it looked so silly just seeing guns pointing and jerking back.

the dialog scenes were pointless since you couldn't make out what he was saying, so i recommend you cut out the dialog in it since this movie is more about expression and action rather than speech.

the music was not that good of quality. but it was better than some that i have heard.

and placing a "Fin" at the end of the movie would be appropriate.

again, nice work on the camera angles. this movie can be much better if it's worked on and follows some suggestions i have given. good luck.

Author's Response:

You're right about the audio and video quality, audio was 64 kbps compressed twice (once to wmv, then to swf instead of a straight shot to flash). Of course, as per the rest, I had basically thrown the whole thing together in one day and was planning to actually create a score for the movie itself - this was a rough cut that I made to see how well I could edit to match "pre-fab" music. Thanks for the ideas., definitely will be utilized next time.

"Not Bad."

Very Well Done For Your First. Nice Camera Work, Good Angels, Well Edited. I Had A Feeling With The Long Intro That It Would Turn Into A Shoot-Out Of Some Sort. It Was Enough To Keep Me Mildly Interested. Sadly, I Feel Most Of The Audience On NG's Is All About Entertainment & They'll Be Wanting Quicker Action, A Plot, Or Some Comedy. As For Me Though I Appreciate Film As Art & I Look Forward To Seeing More From You (Don't Get Me Wrong, I Still Like To Be Entertained). Stay Motivated. Peace.

Author's Response:

thanks for the feedback. The real problem with the video was that the original copy I had of it was destroyed when my computer fried (everything on it....gone). All I had left was this rather rough cut that I was planning to do more work on that I had sent to the guy who helped in assisting me make it. I did no color correction (primary or secondary) at all and I was using Adobe Premier 3 instead of Final Cut Studio 2 (which is much much more able for this kind of a job). It will have titles and the like the next time through - don't know when that will be.
