Yeah, froze on me too on the ship level when I used Sparkle one time. Kind of sucked. I was enjoying the game, even though yes, it was painfully slow.
To echo what everyone else has said, make the game faster (both general attacks and movement), add more variety to the landscape with hilly areas, actual platforms, and some diversity, add aerial attacks, make the enemies more complex (ie jumping, moving back and forth, dropping from above, appearing from below, coming from the other side.. more than just constantly coming from the right and charging or waiting for you), and reduce the scope of the game a little so you can see more of the area around the characters (needed if you want to speed the game up).
Finally make some more abilities for the characters. Punch and kick do essentially the same thing. Sparkle was the same thing as punch and kick, just killed in one hit instead of three. Throw was slightly different, but other than using it to soften up an enemy before he ran in, it wasn't that useful. Maybe holding Down and then using the buttons does something else? Or having different sparkle attacks? Or using the guy on your back to do something, even if it's just to be a distraction or something to be thrown. Or picking up weapons dropped from enemies. Or dropping land mines and backing up. Or having a hide in the background button. Or.... something.
All in all, the art style is really nice and the animation is cool. The humor is interesting enough that I wanted to see more. I didn't mind trudging through the gameplay to see what would happen, but I certainly didn't enjoy it. I'm giving this a 5 on potential alone, boosted up to a 6 because it's nice to look at. It does need some work, but very impressive for your first game.

I like your sense of humor, and I like the Nameless series.
My only problem with the game was that the combat was PAINFULLY slow. And Chocolateman's jump is slower than that of the Master Chief. But, I actually think that was what you were aiming for, you crazy, you. Thanks for a fun game.
