A party-based dungeon crawl tactical RPG. Create a party of up to four heroes, from five distinct character classes. Then battle to the depths of the dungeon, increasing in strength and finding powerful treasure.

My first Flash project! Entered as part of the recent MaxGames contest.

The expansion, Book of Dread, is now also on Newgrounds!

Very decent and nice.

The game is indeed very addictive, mainly for the battle and item system. Though items definitely come too fast. I try to make my units the best where I can, and then I have to decide which bonus is most useful, which is quite painstaking, as there is no apparent calculation. So that turns, uh, too addictive and gets on my nerves for having me stuck to the monitor for no good reason. In general, I'd say, it's way too linear. Otherwise, jolly well done! Bravo! Huzzah!

Great game

I have seen a lot of good stuff from this site, but after beating the final level in this, I must say this is one of the best I have played. Well thought out, lots of loot and varied enemies. Good job, keep up the good work~!

I remember

I remember when games were 2D like this. There they had theme, and a constantly challenging battle system. Such as Dragon Warrior series, and the first Final Fantasy.

This game mimics that very style of game which I love so dearly, and wish to see back in the mainstream console media. Alas, I do not believe it is going to happen.

Remember Luna and the fortress of doom? Or... Unlimited Saga? when they were REALLY good games? The whole RPG world I think has been rocked for me by graphics with no theme, and no story with crappy battle systems.

You are keeping it alive my friend. I admire you for that, and that is why I proudly give this a vote of 5/5 and 10/10.

Please keep doing this, it is now my favorite.

A perfect example

For my game design class, one of my classmates brought this game up as an example that we should review for a sound game. That's exactly what this is, too. This game has its fair shares of complexities for a flash game, but there's nothing that people shouldn't be able to get a hold over halfway through the first dungeon (when most of the enemies are hardly a threat to begin with as long as you pay attention).

When the class as a whole reviewed this, most of them were in favor of the interface, simplistic but entertaining battle system, and the near-addictive sense of 'improving the party' that the game seems to hold. The only complaint, as petty as it is, was inventory management which took up a considerable amount of time. Some also found problems with the nature of the game in itself but, as you can expect, these are more 'Halo is the best game EVARRR' type of gamers rather than the ones who would sit down to a game of Dungeons and Dragons, prepared to have a great time.

So, in conclusion, an excellent game that gets one of my higher reviews (I don't give out tens like candy, but this one was awfully close), and I'll keep playing through it to the end until somebody calls an intervention.
