EDIT 10 (4/3/08): Many people have reported a bizarre save-related bug where, if they load their game, they appear to be in a green/black 'void', where the sprites are visible but the background tiles aren't.
For ages I just assumed this to be specific to peoples' computers or something, since I'd never encountered it myself, but just recently I found out what causes it!
It happens when you save while standing between tiles. Whenever you walk in a direction, you move one 'tile', and only ever stop in the middle of tiles. Which is why just tapping a direction button will move you a considerable distance. However, apparently you can open the menu before you complete a move between tiles, and if you save like that, your location will get stored as a fraction value, which buggers up the rest of the map when loading.
...Anyway, to prevent this, just wait until your party has stopped moving instead of being impatient and opening the menu in the middle of walking!
I'll fix the bug so it CAN'T happen in an update sometime.

EDIT 9: v1.2.0911 fixes the Smite I bug with Vehrn and the bug that causes all your inventory slots to be filled with instances of a single item when you load a game from Chapter 1.

EDIT 8: v1.2.0910 is the latest version, which should fix an odd bug that arose in the last update that causes monsters to sometimes be 'undefined'...

EDIT 7: Fixed a bug which prevented you from using the Switch button thing. (Will Newgrounds be annoyed at me making these constant re-uploads?!)

EDIT 6: More bug fixes. The latest version is v1.2.0909 (it may take some time for Newgrounds to update the file).
This version fixes all of the bugs that people have reported, I think!

Or to discuss your thoughts or theories relating to the current or future chapters of MARDEK with other fans of the series. That's always interesting!

At long last! After many annoying delays, the second chapter of MARDEK is released! Huzzah!

If you've not played the first one, I recommend that you find it and do so, or else parts of this may not make sense.

There are many improvements in this chapter, and it's much, MUCH longer. The first chapter only served as a short introduction, but this is a full-length RPG (I'd say there are about '10 hours' of gameplay, but it all depends on the player).
This game is STORY-DRIVEN, though; the action is there to support the story, not the other way around. There's a LOT of dialogue! I'm aware some of you don't like reading and would rather just mindlessly kill things, but... well, thinking should be more encouraged or something?!

All the content in this game (except the sound effects) is by me.
I did all the coding, drew all the graphics, animated all the animations, and composed all the music.

Since this is the initial public release, there may still be some bugs in there somewhere. If you find any, please report them to me so then I can fix them!

Also, this game is probably somewhat challenging. If you can't beat a boss or something, that doesn't mean the game is flawed; it means that you're an inept player, whether you're too arrogant to accept that or not.

its good and it would get 10 stars except the save broke in mid game, all of my data was lost and i have to start from the begining, but all of that aside its an excellent story and i look forward to the next installment

This game has everything, 9/10 on graphics 9/10 on reality (weapon damage, attacks etc.) 10/10 on storyline.
This game is great. I await a third chapter.

The Storyline is astounding, with a few modifications you could probably write a book with this story and get it published; I would buy it. The characters have personalities that change over time in relation to the world around them, something very few games seems to feature. I'm no expert on coding, graphics, and animation, but everything that I saw shows a genius in those fields. The combat system is very good, the asd function takes a bit of getting used to, but once you've got the hang of it, it adds to the game, you actually have to pay attention and have some reflexes, unlike in most turn-based combat system games. The music selection was pretty good, if a bit repetitious. Adding a bit of a larger, more varied library would easily fix that.

The only complaint I have about the game is the save function, to sum it up: It doesn't work. I can't save any games, the autosave feature is stuck at the very beginning of the game, and I can't load the autosave file. I don't know if the problem's with my computer or your game, but I played Chapter 1 shortly before Chapter 2 and I encountered no problems with the save system there, so I'm assuming that it's on your end. If you are able to fix the save function, the game will easily get a 10/10.

I eagerly await your next update!

This game is purely awesome! It's a little hard to get gold, and the music got a LITTLE bland sometimes (maybe do some catchy piano pieces or guitar in the towns or something like that in the next one? :p) but it didn't really bother me that much. I think the text was the one of the best parts of the game, most of it was hilarious...especially in Canonia.

Overall GREAT game! One of the best online freeware RPGs I've played. Can't wait for Chapter 3!
