Woogi World Fun games for kids, based on the characters of Woogi World!

Author Comments

When Stigg's class held a Health Fair, most of the kids brought healthy foods or exercise equipment. But not Stigg-- he brought free cake instead! Everyone knows cake isn't good for you, but it sure draws a crowd. Fortunately, Stigg has a secret weapon... the Veggie-Matic!

As you've probably guessed, this game is my entry to the Wiggi World contest! That means it's designed for kids aged 5-12. It needs to be clean, there needs to be a reasonably finite ammount of play-time, the first level needs to be do-able by tiny human-larve with developing reflexes, etc. etc. I tried to make the game as fun as I could, given these requirements.

I've written a lot of Flash reviews here at Newgrounds, but this is my first submission. Feel free to rip it apart-- I thrive on criticism. :)

Oh, also, I'd like to thank Erica Mendez and ShockDingo from the Voice Actors Alliance. I'm sorry I don't have a website for either of them but they can be reached at the VAA forum. Both of them came to my aid with auditions even though I posted with a ridiculously short deadline, and even better, they both managed to really nail the voices of characters I'd made up in my own head!

Edit: Woo-hoo! Daily 5th and Front Page? Thanks, guys! :D

Edit: Wow. It won. Just WOW. I mean, I hoped it would, and I did my best, but... WOW! :D

one quick thought

while this is really good for little kids, I noticed one thing. Level 2 is much harder than level one, because not only do they come twice as fast, (so it seems), they come from both directions. Maybe have the same speed and have them coming from both directions for lvl 2, then double the speed in lvl 3.

Yeah, people keep saying the level 1-2 transition is too hard. Okay, I'll try it your way.

One interesting side-effect is you now face 4 orange-headed guys at once instead of 3, since every level adds 1 enemy to the max number on-screen. Since they each take 3 hits to feed, now stage 4 is more challenging than it was before.

Even if 3-4 is now the trouble spot, though, I agree it's better to stick one there than at the 1-2 benchmark.

It is literally impossible to balance a game for a group of players as diverse as 5-12 year olds. But you know what? I kinda think this was a step in the right direction. Good call.

Heh. If only it were that easy. ;)

It sounds like it did make your world a better place, though, for a little while. So I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

*rip rip*

This is a lovely submission. The innocense and cuteness of this technological advanced way to waste vegetables is making this very enjoyable, the programming of what's there seems solid enough, you didn't use annoying background music, it's looks clean. The only think I could think of criticising is the gameplay, there's tons of easy ways to make this more interesting. A fire rate for example, that you have to time correctly to shoot at maximum rate, keeping your attention up a bit more. Or an indicator to tell you the veggies have now hit the target. Or the levels counting twice as fast because 30 seconds are a lot of time for a little kid to concentrate if theres not enough going on.

Anyway, this meant to be purely constructive, I like the game.

Thanks for giving it to me straight, bukKkk. :) As you know, this game is designed for 5-12 year olds. Fire rate timing's an interesting idea, but a little too unique. I decided to err on the side of approachability. I agree that I should have had a sound effect or something for each veggie getting eaten... maybe even an eating animation, but unfortunately the deadline ran out and there just wasn't time. Twice as many levels might be nice... until you realize there'd be 5 levels with a new enemy in each, and then 15 levels of mixed random enemies.

I like the way you're thinking, though. Thanks for the feedback. :) It's extremely gratifying to hear that you liked it anyway. I know I can't please everybody. But so far, it sounds like most people are basically enjoying it for a bit and then putting it down... and that's awesome. :)

Great game!

I love it! This is how a shooter game should be!
The music is fit, there is no ammo counter wich makes it allowed for you to shoot fairly as much as you want, the levels get harder as it should be, so it's almost perfect!

Suggestions: To make the game optimal i'd just make a main menu with the following options for access.

Play game
Instructions
Controls
Unlockables
Upgrades

You should be able to trade your score points in for unlockables and upgrades that benefit your playability in the game, next to that there should be some more levels, different character layouts, a score / level deposit table, and the ability to change controls; and the game background. Then i guarantee a long timed front page. I really liked it! 9/10.

Keep up the good work!

I was sorely tempted. Unfortunately, this isn't a typical Newgrounds Defense game, and it never can be. In order to fulfill the Wiggi World contest criteria, it needed to be short, simple, self-contained, and have a range of possible high scores narrow enough that the webmaster can dole out bronze, silver, and gold medals based on the player's score.

The good news is, I can always make a proper, infinitely long, 360-degree, power-uppable defense game some time in the future. :)

But not this game. This one's for Wiggi World.
