my first real attempt at creating a game engine from scratch, it was submitted as a project for tafe earlier in the year.

I think it both sucks and is good. so, really dont listen to me.

please note, it was a rushed game, and tehre are some hit testing errors.

origanally it had plans for a story and such, but didnt have time to do it before it was due, so you will never know whats going on. This is also why there are no enemies and the levels look rushed.

needs some work

first and foremost you need to increase framerate, make it faster *i did read your post below, and I know its the engine* and also the animations, with that you would have a solid playable game.

as fast as you can?!

when i read "as fast as you can" I expected a fast game, but it was suprisingly boring...
okay. I liked the graphics although there could have been some more animations (i.e. walking!) ... but everything seemed unfinished.
please make a fast exciting game with that engine!

Aviex responds:

its slow because of the engine.

animations i couldnt get working in time, and it seems unfinished because it pretty much is. I only had about a week or two to create the game before the project was due, so thats why it seems a bit.... in places.

potenial game series with work

You lost points with me on a few things, but they're all things that can be easily improved with a tweak of actionscript or a change in design:

-Speed: the character didn't move very fast, and that slowed down the game for me. Although slow movment can be relaxing, it would be more suited to a character such as a jellyfish.

-Animation: the running animation did not play; perhaps this is just a glitch you overlooked.

-Screen Size: It's hard to tell what you're doing on such a small screen. I know it's more work to make a larger area, but it looks as though you built the tiles using an array. if that's the case, it won't be too much work to fix this.

-Controls: the controls did not feel right for me. they just weren't intuitive. simply usning the left and right arrow keys for running would fix this.

-Story: this is where the series comes in; if you flesh out your character and add a preface, you might be able to continue this through further installments.

-Design: the level design seemed random to me. taking your time and planning a level makes for a much better game. think about what the player would be thinking. i wasn't sure which way to go or what to do next. take out the guess work for the player.

That's my two cents. For your first game engine, this isn't bad at all, but I hope you get back to work and give us something much more polished next time.

Could be good but no

This game could be good but no, it's so slow, maybe rising FPS would make it more interesting to play. (I dont think it's y computer also)
Otherwise graphics were good and stuff.
Also maybe adding a voice when you jump could be a good idea.

1/5, sorry.

Eh, so-so.

It was lacking in graphics but I liked the concept of the game.
