IMPORTANT: This is a rather different version of Chapter 1!
The original was released in 2007, but this version was uploaded in 2010. It's basically a 'remake' in many ways, though the plot and events are generally the same.

Unfortunately, your saves from the old version won't work due to the drastic differences behind the scenes, but there are enough differences, I hope, to make replaying worthwhile. Any saves you make in this version can carry over to later chapters properly.

EDIT (21st of August 2010): Sorry, there'd been bugs with this version for a long time! It's because I fixed the bugs on Kongregate and updated the version there, but didn't do so here... Now I have though, so hopefully all problems will be fixed.

Oh, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure you have an appropriate Flash Player version! There's a screen at the start that warns you if your version is outdated. If this screen appears *at all*, then you may (probably will) experience some bizarre saving problems. Updating your Flash Player prevents them.

Most Impressive

I havent written a review in a while, but then I havent seen a good sprite game in a while so here we are. As an RPG I liked the reaction element, was something different for me, although I think this reminded me most of the old RPGs like Shining Force. Very well done.

Graphics: It may not seem like much at first but I can see there was alot of effort put into this game, especially with the battle animations. Very well done
Style: Exactly what it set out to be
Sound:Typical music, although I did think the selection fit, even if it was memorable.
Violence: Its an RPG. No blood, but then I didnt expect it from a sprite game. Violent as the next sprite RPG game
Interactivity: Well done, easy to use interface, combat system, and quest managment
Humor: Hehe I was pleasently surpised, the story was very clever and kept me interested with its wit.

Overall: I found this game very interesting, good story, memorable charecters (especially those at the end of this chapter) and good action. I look forward to future chapters!

The use of the words "clever" and "wit" in that review delight me, ohyes!
As did the fact that you understand and appreciate the effort I put in! With the graphics, at least.

Ok

This was an OK game, I guess. Even though I don't like RPG it was OK.

Amazing game that we need more of.

Graphics:
Good by flash standards, and I liked the overall feel of the sprites and stuff. Of-course the quality could have been better, but I think it achieved the standard it was aiming for.

Style:
Loved it, poking fun at the cliched 'hero/dragon/princess' games, and also the way the controls are described by the characters. Don't change anything here.

Sound:
Again, kinda simple, but the feel was good, and the music for each area was set out properly.

Violence:
Nice, loved that touch with the 'reactions', I could see a lot coming out of that! So keep it up there, maybe build on those?

Interactivity:
Well, it's an RPG. I'm not sure what to write here, it lived up to RPG standards.

Humor:
Like I said, loved the jabs at cliched games, and just the whole dialogue was good. I liked it.

General Comments:
Keep up the humour and build on the reactions. I think the elemental cycle, and the whole elemental resistance part of the game is slightly hard to understand, maybe present it differently or dumb it down a bit?
Or, then again, maybe not.
Please make the next one a bit longer :-)

Good work!

Overall: 9/10

Pseudolonewolf responds:

I like this review! Someone who actually likes the humour and realises that the intro is a jab at cliches, yes!

Oh, and I certainly have expanded on the reactions considerably in later chapters (I say 'have' because I'm half way through chapter 2 now). And the elements aren't really important in this chapter; when they are, they'll become more obvious in how they work. They're really simple!

Anyway, I appreciate that you like my humour and so on!

very nice

a very nice rpg. i like the game play and the story so far. though it was rather short. i think you should try to fit in more per chapter or something. also the reactions were really quick . . a lil too quick. i suggest giving a lil more time or some sort of timer . . . like a line on a bar and u have to hit a,s, or d when it hits a certain area on the bar. i did notice your exlamation points but they were just brief flashes. im not saying a very long time but like a half a second should be enough time.

Pseudolonewolf responds:

This is just a short introduction chapter; the others are MUCH longer, I assure you! (Like, six times as long if not more...)

And eh, you get used to the reactions. I'm not changin' 'em.

one helluva good game!!

cant wait the next chapter arrives.... by the way, balthazar is in the guild wars and its one of the gods..... anyway keep it going!!! i voted 5

Pseudolonewolf responds:

Balthazar, Melchior and Gaspar, as names, appear in quite a lot of things! As do so many other things from mythology!
So I don't want people thinking I stole those names from other games; no, me and the other games all stole them from mythology!

Yes, the Bible counts as mythology.
