Tips should be earned, not considered customary!

I fully agree that tip cups are totally pathetic. If I go to a restaurant and I am given the usual half-assed service, any tip given would be based only on the quality of the food (10% max). A tip for service should only be given if there was extra effort put into it beyond them just doing their job. Also, if a tip is requested or added on to the bill they will get at the most half of what I would have given if they didn't ask for it. I doubt there are many who want to be a server as a lifelong career and they should try to get into a better line of work that they like or pays better or both.

Thank you Foamy for speaking the truth!

I only understand tip cups for places that pay their workers $4 an hour. It's ridiculous what businesses can get away with if they're listed as a "Cafe" or something like that.

At a stupid coffee shop or restaurant where people OBVIOUSLY get paid at least minimum wage for untrained labor-stop the cursed tip cups! Keep up the good work!

Right... the privileged elite...

Aren't those the same people that are either just sitting on their fat and/or lazy asses or playing golf while everyone else is slaving on meager salaries for said pricks? Foamy had a good point on how it's not that difficult to work at a coffee establishment; a high school diploma would be ample enough. This was an interestingly good debate and maybe a rant about these executives would awesome to listen to. Great work.
