I Feel Guilty.
I'll be honest with you. I feel guilty raiting this flash so highly. I mean, I am a college-going student, and I am about to enter my third decade, yet somehow, a flash all about farting and pooping still makes me giggle like a little third-grader who has just discovered pixie-sticks and jolt cola.
On technical notes the animation itself is smooth and crisp. Although the drawings themselves were simplistic, the entire scene was both colorful and well animated, so instead of distracting from the overall product, the simplistic drawings simply added to the overall style. Speaking of style, I suppose it is only proper that I at least give a nod towards the various fart-cloud effects, they were quite good, despite being juvenile. Furthermore, actualy seeing a flash that integrates what the music is about with what the animation is a nice touch in a time when the random music video seems to be the reigning king.
Overall there are few real suggestions I can make. You could try to work on the art, but overall that really isn't needed, as the style of drawing melded perfectly with the style of flash. Indeed, everything works so perfectly becuase you chose a song and a style of animation that fit so well together. Generally when one does such a good job as this, any change, however small, will simply serve to wreck the feel of the flash.
Ahh, now that I am done intellectually reviewing a flash on pooping and farting I think I will take a break to not only appreciate the beautiful, beautiful irony, but to continue giggling like a little 3-year-old.
I just love these long winded reviews, because they ensure a response based on guilt. Not that I don't appreciat it, but such long reviews can't really recieve my normal 8 word response, and I hate having to think to far.
The art itself is simple because I wanted a very innocent feel to the cartoon, by the means of keeping things very happy and childish. The animation between parts rarely went past 2 repeated frames, so it wasn’t an issue of laziness on my part. With so few drawings, I could have easily drawn something better, but the stick characters looked like a toddler might have doodled it. This lead the viewer into a false sense of security, one of the reason I added that all so cute play button animation.
On the subject of color, it was an ongoing battle with myself to use as much color as possible. I wanted to force myself to work on the things I sucked most at, backgrounds and color usage. Obviously I failed with the backgrounds (which I hate doing quite a lot), but I did try to have some fun with the colors. You’ll probably notice that with each part, the coloring scheme is different. One reason would be because I wanted to try out styles of color matching I’d never do on a normal occasion, and the other reason would be that I did every line separately. I really hate loops, or re-using old parts. I think that after you see something twice, it becomes predicable and boring. So I ended up making every line original. Sure enough, I probably spent more time trying to think of ideas for each line than I did animating them. I really wanted to pull away from toilet humor by contrasting the song with playful animated content. But with poo and farts as a subject, trying to think of creative solutions that were CUTE by nature was a big pain in the ass. If I’m correct, I believe only the first two lines were ever done in order. The rest I animated whenever I could think of something unique to do.
If this review looks scrambled, it would be because I pasted it from ms word. I've had complaints about my spelling.... a lot of complaints.
Seems like some of the music videos I would see on the tv, and just the creativity of this was great.
The graphics were very good. Even though they were simplistic with stick figures, I still really liked them. They were very clear and birght, and perfectly synched.
The sound was really good. That song really sets this apart from other Flashes. I must have this song! I've watched the flash about 4 times now.
A good amount of humor, but not much violence or interactivity. So overall, amazingly creative and unique flash, and I wish to make stuff like this one day.
