I've received the question, what is a MC multiple times now so I'd just like to add that an MC is a Movie Clip.

When you place your preloader in the exact same position in both frames, you can place it in the first then copy and paste in place in the next. :)

the colours pulsating in the background hurt my head
oh and the tutorial's pretty bad in general
OH and I don't like the author, he seems like a complete dick
if he replies to this like he did that other guy, then you should assume I'm right

"needs more specification to function"

hmm...
I think what's missing from this tutorial is.. what exactly are you naming the instances for "percentDone", "framesloaded", and "totalframes". I think this tutorial is good... but it needs to specify what to call your instances. A person might have the right codes but didn't name their instances for this preloader to function... I am currently looking to put together such a preloader. If you can help me clear this up.. I would highly appreciate it. thanks.
