"Try Michael Swain's version instead..."
date: March 11, 2008
I'd gotten back into Mastermind because of Michael Swain's The Mastermind Game on NG, so when I tried a search for it again, I came up with this and decided to try it out as well. I was a bit disappointed, maybe because I'd played Swain's version first. Let's see, the graphics are...well I guess they're better than a text version of the game. The background, with words moving here and there on a blue screen, is not all that pretty to look at, and a simple blue screen would have probably looked better. The sounds, I don't know, because I didn't have them on. The interface is what sealed it, though. I thought Swain's color-choosing scheme might have been pulled off better, but loopooi did one worse. Dragging the colored ball of your choice from the right of the screen to the left is in poor taste. If you had 1 ball of each color right underneath your guess input, that would have streamlined the game more. But hey, this is Mastermind, this game is originally a very low key affair to begin with, there's no flashes, no bells and whistles with the boardgame, so should we really expect it with the video game version? Actually, yeah, we should.
