I originally posted this on Newgrounds in 1999, before the current Portal system.

Your master is dead, and you're out for mindless revenge against everyone! Use the arrow keys to walk, "A" to attack, "S" to jump and "D" to block.

This game was made in Flash 4, which is why the keyboard input is laggy. Flash 4 didn't allow consistent keyboard input, so I had to fudge it to make the character move as smoothly as possible. I was tempted to fix it, but decided to maintain the crappy integrity of the original.

It is also worth noting that Flash 4 didn't support depth swapping, so it was a pain in the butt to make the characters overlap eachother based on their depth on the screen. I don't say this stuff to be boastful, I say it because I want people to appreciate why my old games are so crappy. These were the pinnacle of Flash programming at one point and I need some props!

The background art was by Michael Bregman. I did the rest!

Well

This is a bit glitched.
When I press S+A and attack the enemy, enemy's HP doesn't
comes down.
Anyway, this is pretty fun killing the poeple and I liked the end,
Like in the "Blip&Blop game.
Graphics weren't terrible, still there is something to change.
I guess this is a 8/10

Great

Nice game, simple controls and I think there should be more kind of attacks like combos or something. Graphics were great, nice art, loved the violence, but when the monk guys died it made a sound that kinda creeped me out... Good job.

Not so good, but entertaining

There are very few, buy enough instructions, the samurai looks cool and the blood looks real, not like Kill Bill.

A really fun flash game

~The Pros~

I really enjoyed this side scroller, and I'm not just saying that because you made newgrounds (yes I am). I loved how you encorporated the three dimensional element rather than the traditional side scrolling element. The animation in both the beggining scene and the game play was done pretty well. This flash was a pretty original game, or it was the only ninja game that was saved. The sound of the jumping, the slashing and the sword clanging was done really well. The only funny part was the beggining scene when you mocked asian voices by making uncomprehensible voices. The interactivity was flawless, not glitches whatsoever.

~The Cons~

As one of the most expierienced flash makers on NG, there weren't many problems concerning this flash. For example, the animation of the samurai was kind of blurry. I understand that it is difficult to make it perfect, but the in game play should be the best. Also, the faded background of the city was kind of bland and unnatractive.

Overall, a really great side scrolling flash. I hope that you benefit from this flash.
