Author Comments

This short 3-minute movie is a remake scene from the movie Vanilla Sky. It takes place at the very last scene ( on the roof ). If you didn't saw the original movie, you wont understand this but i hope you still vote fairly. Enjoy the last scene from vanilla sky featuring 8-Bit sprites !

ps. check out the outtakes at "extra's" !

nice

lol.. it was a nice game..
and Vanilla Sky is a good movie.. but funny enough Vanilla Sky is the remake of Abre Los Ojos. it is exactly the same.... so that's a good reason why I don't really like Vanilla Sky ;-)
btw: nice scene

RogerGargantua responds:

i own both movies. I like em both.
Thx for the review

A Remake of a Remake..

I didn't knew what to think about this the first moment I read the title of the submission, but then, before viewing the movie, I've read the director comments. You first filmed it for your class and then you made the flash for yourself or this was the material (this flash) that you presented to your class? If you first filmed it, I would LOVE to see that.

I liked that you extracted and used the film's voices/soundtrack. The fact of using a lot of alpha gave it the dreamy feeling and a smooth animation. I liked the last scene but there's this thing about Vanilla Sky's ending that fascinates me, perhaps a little more than Abre Los Ojos's ending.

SPOILERS

When we see David jumping, we see an extract from 'To Kill A Mocking Bird'. I thought that was one of the most beautifull lines to put in that kind of ending. And since this one didn't had it, it kinda felt 'empty' to me. But then again, the pics of yourself and friends, the pic of the character made it really nice too. And the roof outtake was funny heh.

I enjoyed this flash, I'm glad you made this ending in 8-bit!

cool

Good film, good interpretation. Not sure about the photos though, they're kind of irellevant when compared to the style of the movie. And I laughed when I saw the 'Nintendo World Cup' box, that game was terrible! I hope that doesn't flash before my eyes when I 'die'

not seen the movie, but

it seems like a nice flash version of it, what happens after davids opens his eyes? I am left wondering this, was that a dream, or what

RogerGargantua responds:

Yup, it's a flash remake version of the last scene in the movie.
The whole thing he experiences is a dream ...so he wants to live a real life again. To do this, he must face his biggest fear : heights.
Thats why he jumps off the roof and starts a new life. A real life...

Hard to take serious. Hard to find funny

Not sure what your intention with this flash is. Besides the
idea to replicate an exsisting moviescene, there wasnt alot of thought put into this. What were you trying to accomplish?

Replacing the actors with 8 bit figures is cool if theres a good concept behind it. But as it is now it was neither clever or humorous. Theres just the vanilla sky soundclip with the same camera angles as the movie with the addition of some 8 bit figures (from world cup soccer?). I just didnt get it. 8 Bit figures cant express any emotion and you chose one of the most emotional scenes from the movie to animate them in. They work alot better if you try to replicate action scenes.

Another disadvantage, which you already sort of stated in your comments, is that this thing has absolutely no value to people who havent seen the movie. They simply dont get whats going on. And to people who seen it its just a 'been there seen that'. No interesting personal interpretation, no vision or whatever shown.

Making these kind of studies is great to learn use of pace and camera for yourself but uninteresting for the audience. Other replicas like Van Helthing, Mario Reloaded or Rise Of The Mushroomkingdom work alot better.
