NG Collabs Multi-Author Newgrounds Collaborations!
Author Comments
July 13, 2012
I just went through and added a number of contributors to the list so they get headlines. Of course, they have to actually accept the invitation first.
There were some whose user name has either changed or been deleted (didn't show up no matter what I tried), so if any of the people who contributed don't get an invite, pm me and I'll see what i can do.

Uploaded an official video of this collab to YouTube.

WOO! Daily, Weekly and Front Page! Sweet!
Sometime in July -- I believe -- -KJDunwoody- started a BBS post seeking authors to make parts for a collab based on Gary Jules' "Mad World". Yes we know the song was originally done by Tears for Fears, but we used Gary Jules version because that's what KJ picked.
Several people responded, and the response was mixed -- people were either excited to be involved for love of the movie Donnie Darko, or felt obligated to flame the collab because the author didn't have a 3.00+ BA.
In late August I came onboard with this collab -- a full month into production. -KJDunwoody- had gotten it started, but was floundering a bit -- some authors were flaking out and others were turning out abject rejects. Needless to say several artists from NG leaped in and saved what was looking to be a very interesting project. I contributed quite a lot of time to this project -- far more than I had expected -- and I'm happy to say it's finally done.
There are 25 people that should be mentioned here, they are as follows (in order of appearance in the collab):
Helbereth (I hate repeating my name here...)
Shmickname
MFProd
Andie Ciambotti
Mushroomboy5
Pigsk8s
Cybex
_darx_
XoSs
FoxCatO
HeRetiK
BlackMarketKraig
Greedoms
TheMythicBrother
Jedi-Hampster
Joem
Renaenae
GuntherSwanh
Threetrees
KJDunwoody (The original creator)
patrick_majewski
Starogre
KillMoochie
Stereoflash
daagah
There are also several people who I should mention. Numerous people submitted clips for the collab, but were either rejected or beaten out by other parts -- or just came in too late. To all those people, I apologize for lacking the KB to make an outtakes section.
Special thanks go to BlackMarketKraig, FoXcatO, ReNaeNae, Joem and Threetrees -- the early versions of your clips are what hooked me on this collab in the first place.
Well if you're still reading (I doubt it), enjoy the collab! Check the authors section for some author details and URL links to various author-supported sites.

Almost good.
Well, It would have been much better if you picked either random and silly or dramatic. Though the animation was good, just not fitting.
As I recall, the rules about subject matter were very limited. Basically we were told to take a little chunk of the song and interpret it however we saw fit. Some clips were moved around in the final edit so they'd fit better with the tempo, but there was no real narrative planned.
Were I to do another similar collab now, I would set out some more constricting subject rules and perhaps plan some kind of narrative, but this was someone else's project that I helped get finished.

A good song but...
It was a good song and the animation wasn't that bad, but you completely misinterpreted the song. I am sorry, but in my opinion it's about a 2 out of 10.
So yeah... Sorry. I will say though, if you do at any point decide to make another one, you should check up what the song is about before you make a flash dedicated to that song.
What, praytell, is the song about if not the irony of life? The duality of experience. The awkwardness of knowledge. I suppose you think the song is about something specific, and you would be wrong.

Firstly, we can't delete reviews.
Secondly, thanks for your opinion. However, there's a massive majority that disagrees with you.

Cool
First I have to say that I Iove the song! Though some of the images weren't that good and didn't catch the meaning at all I shouldn't discredit the other artists who did terrifically. They really did take this as a serious flash and put good stuff on, thank you for making this flash better good people!

Going noplace
This was one of my favorite songs that I heard on the Internet, and I have never seen the movie "Donnie Darko". It is too bad not everyone was credited on the side of the screen, but at least they were mentioned in the author's comments. This is a fantastic song because it is dark, but also philosophical. What makes this even cooler is that the guys who worked on this are not even that well known here. What better way to give newcomers a chance than with this? There are so many different styles going on, it is difficult to even think of a single one right now.
You would do well to remember that the song "Mad World" featured herein is actually a cover done by Gary Jules of an original Tears for Fears song. I'd never seen Donnie Darko prior to working on this either, nor had I heard either version of the song. I have seen Donnie Darko since, and I've listened to several versions of the song - I even have a version of this collab using a totally different version sitting in my hard-drive that I had to completely adjust to the differing tempo.
