Ruferus - Leone Style

Firstly, this is my first flash project I've actually put real work into. I have EXTREMELY limited abilties in Flash, so judge it accordingly. Second, while this does appear to be just a preview, it is the finished product. I have no plans to make a 3 hour long spaghetti western.

Sergio Leone's work have been the most inspiring thing to me stylistically. I chose to reflect that by making a film that mirrored his famous opening to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.

Forgive the large file size. The size is due to the images I needed to use for the film. I experimented with optimization, but I wasn't willing to sacrifice the quality of the visuals for the lower size.

For a first real Flash, I think this half-decent. I hope you feel the same.

UPDATE: I should make mention that the images used are 100% original and my work. They are the real focus of this film.

umm...

ok this was ok.... except taht you showed the same picture over and over it was kind of annoying.... i really hate most movie intros and i really really hate westrens....

but it was well done dispite my own tastes. good job.

p.s. why were they all cats....

gussiejives responds:

Well unless you've seen The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, I suppose it won't make much sense.

Plus I'm one of dem greasy furries.

Nice

This is a nice parody of a classic western's intro credits.

Unlike the movies of today, those classic films often didn't start the story-line during the intro credits.

I'm sorry others don't see the light of the fact that its just the intro you're doing, not an entire movie (which would be a whole heck of alot larger than 5 MB)

I liked the shading art alot. An awful lot of cats people though. Humor points for me laughing at the cats when I looked at this flash again.
Already knew that the music you used isn't yours, so no you don't get a great score on sound.

This is well done, good job.

gussiejives responds:

Thanks at lot for the review. I'm really glad to see some people appreciate my view on the classic westerns.

Why sit there the whole time to watch a beginning?

I liked the movie, but its pointless i expected an end to the beginning

gussiejives responds:

I've been noticing this trend that something has to have a beginning and an ending within the span of 3 minutes.

I'll tell you something... I love a series of films and novels written by Bernard Cornwell called Sharpe, the story of a British Rifleman over the course of his military career from 1799 to 1821. There are 20 books and 14 films. I have read every page and watched every second of Sharpe. When I read Sharpe's Tiger, I didn't think that it was a pointless read because it was a 400 page beginning to the series.

The opening to The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is just as memorable as the rest of the movie and I wanted to highlight that.

Thank you for your review.

I wonder....

How many people that come here will Apreciate this?
I remember watching this the first time it came out, my dad took me to see it. Same snap shot style.
He had seen the earlier one's, (I had as well ,Spagetti Westerns)
But I really liked -The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly.
The great art work in your intro , makes me wish you had the money work on the original score, with your new idea's.
Thanx,

gussiejives responds:

My guess... not many will appreciate it. But I'm glad to see there are some out there who do.

Thank you so much for your feedback.

Man that sucked!

I believe that you wasted your time creating this piece of crap, and I sure as heck wasted my time watching it! I want the time I spent watching this garbage back!!!!! Well time for the review! The drawing where good; however, some movement would have been good. And the if you did not want it to seem as if it were a preview, you should not have put credits all throughout the strip! It was really too long and nothing seemed to get accomplished!

gussiejives responds:

Hmm, well I have no ability to alter time, so I can't give you back the 2 minutes and 50 seconds that the song lasts. Unless you're a smoker and you quit, that'll give you a few years....

I don't consider my creative productions "pieces of crap" nor "wastes of time" nor "garbage". Sergio Leone's opening credits are as remarkable as his films themselves, so you'll need a frame of reference before being able to cognitively berate my work.

But I should say thanks for taking the time to write a review, albeit a non-constructive one.
