Updated 8/27 3:00am - Aside from the previous update, I tightened the controls a hair more, showed an enemy counter for the bosses, and put a 'sort of' ending to it.

Megaman Next 2- Prologue Story
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view.php?id=117797

Well here's the actual game the story I uploaded refered to. It's still probably a little rough in certain areas like the Intro to the original was, but it's definitely a work of art to see Flash accomplish this little bit. However, please keep in mind I didn't want it to be similar to past Megaman games and it follows the plot that my comic takes. So please don't compare it to other Megaman games because it's not trying to be like one (It's like comparing apples to oranges). This stage is also to get feedback so I know what needs tweaking as I move onto Level 1 of it. If it seems to run to slow for everyone I can still raise the FPS and/or reduce the resolution to help.
As always if you enjoy it, let me know via email/review/ or $$$ (Money talks just as well as words :D ). If you don't enjoy this then let me know why as best you can. Just saying something like "It sucks" is a waste of NG space and my time. And worse yet is if you contradict anything I've said in the comments here, instructions, or information sections... I will not be happy having to re-explain myself and show you the errors of your ways >:|

If you don't feel like reading the instructions then here's the real quick summary of them.
A, S, D = action buttons.
Arrow keys move. Double tap Left and/or Right to Run
Up Jumps, hold it down to go higher.
Space = Fires Megabuster When you have 30+ charge accumulated.

I'd love to have as much feedback as possible, but please leave legit reviews. If you have technical problems (aside from Hardware limitations) with playing, send me an EMAIL before voting or reviewing. I hope this lives up to the quota like the first one in it's own unique way.

Thanks again, and yet another happy 15th to Capcom's Smurf.

Oom

Ok first on the list. The speed of the game was wayyy to slow for me. I got so pissed because of this, I couldn't even get passed the transperant/teleport blocks. I kept dying. Plus, he becomes Super Man when he jumps. Too many controls for Megaman, he was sorta known for simplicity for his controls. Jump, shoot, ..something.

However, I did like the style Mega Man had. Gave a new feel for him. If the game wasn't as slow (not sure on everyone else), it would be a great game. Keep up the work!

maelstormm responds:

Here's a list right back for ya...
>> Speed = Your computer is probably the problem here. True, this is quite hard on alot of machines, but on any system that should be running it it should be fine. If it's that bad for you it's either because you need a better computer, or you need to learn how to optimize the one you got. To remedy this issue easiest I'd say goto a friends house.
>> Superman Jumps = Let go of the **** UP arrow key! This problem could have been prevented if you read the full instructions, that's why I put the link above in the comments and in the game.
>> Simplicity = This is debatable and depends on which game you are talking about. In this game you have 4 basic buttons and the arrows. All you need to play with is pretty much 'A' to shoot like normal and the arrow keys to move, and I'd have to say thats pretty simple and it's quite easy to beat the game using only that method. Whereas in the later Megaman games you have to manage all of your weapons to solve puzzles, retrieve powerups with, etc. Then you have to learn the strategy for using all the weapons effectively and using your powerup parts, etc. And the biggest reason of all in this catagory is... I didn't DESIGN this to play like a Megaman game, so it makes perfect sense that it doesn't. This was also covered in the information section.
>> Glad you liked the style at least. I apologize if I wasn't clear enough about the distinct difference between my games and capcoms and it led you to think this was Megaman that was supposed to play like an official Megaman game. Thanks for the review :)

Eh, I'll Pass

Game seemed as though it wasn't well put together and i wasn't all that impressed with the visuals. Good try though.

maelstormm responds:

??? What's that thing up there ???
I don't mind if it's not your cup of tea, but dammit explain why the hell not so I can see if it can be fixed!
What I need you to do is to send me your review (maelstormm@comcast.net) because you have left it out of your review. In the email I request to know why you think it isn't well put together and I also would like to have Links to the "Flash" games of the same genre and scale that have better visuals and were put together better so that I can see what I'm doing wrong. Good try at the review, keep practicing :)

God I love Megaman

This was creative. But I'll have to stick with the original Blue Bomber though.

maelstormm responds:

I wanted to poke at new territory, and you never know till you try :) Hope it was still good fun to play :)

looks good

there is really something wierd about playing as a mortal kombat megaman though. i like the sprites better, i'm just sad since my comp is crap and i can't enjoy this without lag.

maelstormm responds:

I'll be speeding it up here shortly. It seems to be a decent sized issue that's not as much of a hassle as fixing the weapon keys in the first one. Check back tomorrow evening and it should be running faster :)

Wow

That was possibly the best Megaman game I've played on here. I love the realistic approach you've taken. This would be perfect if not for a few things.
First, it's a little choppy and slow. I'm not sure how easy it is to address that, but it'd help. Otherwise, the animation is amazing, and the character models are better than most of the sprites from the Playstation MM games. Only other problem is that this is in desperate need of sound effects. The BGM is good, but sound effects would be awesome.
This is apparently the into level, and it's a very solid one at that. Try to touch up on the things I've said, but if you can't, it's still fun. I'm looking foward to more.

Also, when you're done with this series, how about trying to do the same thing to MM X? I always liked that series better : )

maelstormm responds:

I'm working on the SFX code (it was giving me errors so I left it out). I'm going to adjust the FPS, Resolution, and Quality to increase performance. Nothing to hard to do. I just don't to compress it to much so that the graphic detail is lost.
The Megaman Next game is kinda like plot developement for Megaman before he ends up in my comic Rick's Adventure (This game was originally going to have Rick in it, but I switched to Mega to appease those who wanted a sequel). Once X becomes active in the comic, he'll probably get some spotlight time. Once I go back to work on the comic there are going to be several playable single stages featuring Mega, Rick, Protoman, X, Zero, and Cloud. Whew, I accidently ran on :(
Thanks for the comments
