A quick estimation of the FLA file gives about 1,650 lines for the engine. There's probably a few hundred more in the map data.
I don't think you understand as much about programming as you claim to. It might be easy to say, "Oh, a person walking back and forth on a scrolling map, and occasionally they're interrupted by an encounter! That's so simple!", but there's more juggling of information than meets the eye here. You have to program hitting the edge of the map, determining each area's particular monster set, turning the item menu on or off when the character moves or stops, and hooking hitting the map edge together with turning on the item menu; a checklist of little things that add to a game's complexity. Likewise, there's a lot of things going on in all parts of the game just to make it look smooth and easy on the outside.
But perhaps I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to an obvious troll who seeds Newgrounds with crap reviews and has never submitted a movie of his own.
