"Great first chapter!"

I beat it (without cheating) after a couple tries. The key is to just get to about level four in that first forest and then take off with it. I will say though, that the battle system in this game is pretty unbalanced, but was still as far as I know, a very original idea.

"I hate this !"

date: February 19, 2001

Ahhh. I hate it. I spent so much time on this. I could not even get past the first boss. Why did you make it so hard...why. Theonly reason I gave it a high score was cause it kicked ass other than being really hard for me. I beat every Final Fantasy and I cant even get past this .WHY GOD WHY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Can an RPG be made in Flash?"

by: Strafe
date: February 19, 2001

Yes it can, and beautifully so! Absalom RPG is truly a gem of the Portal. It plays much like traditional RPG's, which I love, and the card system to decide attacking power, while adopted from Dragonlance, was a perfect idea to fit this submission. The sound was wonderful, fitting the situation in which it is played perfectly. The second episode continues perfectly from the first, adding features such as a Save Point which are quite nice. Only one complaint -- the Tokens are way too powerful. Unlike other "RPGs" on the Portal, Absalom RPG actually has a plot, and the second part ends on a wonderful cliffhanger. What will happen next? Finish making part 3 soon, Kinsman, we're all waiting. It's wonderful that Absalom is finally enjoying the respect it deserved (#2 as of this writing)

The plot is not half as spectacular as the idea behind this game. "Kill those bandits!" - come on, you can do better than this!
Apart of this, the gameplay is pretty good, but the whole game is too linear, you can only move left or right and can't choose your own way (add some crossroads!)
The sounds at the palace and the village are much too short and are very annoying after a short time - and there are no FX :-(.
However, I really liked the fighting system using the cards (hope you'll add some special mystic cards or so).
Okay, I'm waiting for part 2!

"Well done, but not worth it."

date: February 17, 2001

You are obviously very skilled as a flash coder and it's good to see of what you and flash 5 are capable of. However although the game had alot of depth it was quite boring and the artwork was scratchy. You obviously gave it alot of effort and you can only be commended for that but if I was you i'd move away from the Final Fantasy rip offs and start a whole new genre. Also the magic of games on the internet is they are short and sweet like PICO for example. Producing games as short as these will allow you to concentrate on art and stuff people notice. I'm not nocking your game though. I'm simply trying to post a constructive review to help.

"Excellent Work!"

This was an excellent example of great Flash scripting. It's about time a REAL RPG has been made using Flash. This just shows the potential that Flash has on the internet gaming experience. I really loved the artwork and the nice sounds, but I didn't like how slow the game moved. It would be really nice to skip through the walking and just go straight on to the next battle/city. I quit in the middle of the game because of how slow it was going. Despite this is really liked the whole card-type battle system, it was really original and creative, because I haven't ever seen anything like that before. You should really make a second part to this or work on another similar type game. And a really great thing you could do would be submittin the .FLA file to Flashkit or Flashplanet so others could learn from your scripting and maybe advance in the types of games we now see made in Flash. Anyways, really great game, if I had alot of time, I would play it all the way through.
