"The birth of a god or a child's descent to madness"
date: November 7, 2009
What if Calvin (as in Calvin and Hobbes) had a little less grip on sanity? Or maybe if Hobbes could fly through space? (Actually it seems just as much like it might have been about me as well.) It's hard to believe this came from the creator of "12 uses of dead babies" and their revolting sequels (which is why his username is "bluebaby). But one thing is clear to me from this game. He hates his father as much as I do mine.
I wonder what the geometry of spacetime is in this game. It's obviously not closed space because you can fly in one direction and all the planets just get farther and farther away, but I don't think they are obeying an inverse square law. Of course in 2 dimensions it should be an inverse reciprocal law anyway. I like how after every mission you complete, if you return to Earth, it's a little bit smaller, and the smiley face it starts with gets distorted into being flat and then curved down.
A true existential journey, one relating more closely to actual human experience than his more recent game time fcuk; which is rooted in the horror of oblivion of nonexistence and all, but when all is said and done it's really just another puzzle game while this is a bit more unique. Indeed I agree with the commenter below me, you might do well to have a sequel. It must cleverly leave unresolved the question I posed at the top; is this the birth of a god or a child's descent into madness?
Not a game to share with your parents.....
Too bad you didn't throw in some easter eggs. Like a hidden planet which doesn't have a pointer that shows you its direction, and is maybe far away in some weird direction (of course it always shows you "down" as being the direction gravity is pointing toward regardless of its magnitude so it's hard to figure out a map anyway), which produces an alternate ending. Or maybe there IS and I just haven't found it, but I doubt it. Maybe if you make a sequel or a remake - but don't make it TOO far out or it won't be found....
