"Non-intuitive solutions"

It's not a bad game, but the solution path is very non-intuitive. While I can see the outcome of various choices being vaguely plausible, they're by no means likely. I also don't think that the solution has much of anything to do with the actual problem that I'm faced with - if this is a game of negotiation and mediation, then I should absolutely have the opportunity to resolve the problem simply on the basic fact that the iron was faulty; everything else should be immaterial except the communication process by which I establish that fact.
