"Well Done"

date: May 11, 2008

I liked the way you handled combat. Especaly the fact that if your close enough he does a pre-strike hit while he brings his sword back. One bit of constructive critisism though: the run speed is kinda slow. It looks odd, like he's runing in water or something, and it makes runing through sections without enimies drag on longer than it needs to. Other than that, great game.

May 12, 2008

Author's Response:

Yeah I can agree with you on the running speed, and with the game running on a internet browser its even slower. I was keeping in mind that if it goes any faster then it would start become very jerky, because of all the detailed stuff moving across the screen. I'll try to figure out some way in the sequel to make his running a bit better, but I dont know, I plan on putting even more detail into the game...

Really glad you liked it and thanks!

"Nicely done."

I particularly enjoyed the text parts, because it showed intelligence to put together such an interesting little story, and have such good grammar while doing so. Good job, good job.

Author's Response:

I dont know if my grammar and writing skills are really that good, but thanks anyway, I appreciate it.

"cool game"

date: May 7, 2008

This is a nice little time waster, fun w/o being too invovled. If I do have a complaint the spider enemies are a little dark too see, and maybe throw in a new skill or ability when you pass a checkpoint. Other than that good job.

May 8, 2008

Author's Response:

Thanks.
Many have complained about the spiders being too difficult, but maybe its just because everything else is so much easier. Its a bit unbalanced, but I think them being so dark gives them a cool feel. New skills and abilities would have cranked up the filesize and it would have REALLY pushed my abilities as a coder, but its a great idea for the sequel. I have learned enough with this game to give the sequel all sorts of new and exciting stuff. Glad you liked the game and thanks for the review!

"It was alright"

date: May 7, 2008

Not a bad storyline, but the gameplay lacked. It was basically block and attack, use special move, then blcok some more. The last level was the easiest because you could just run and swing your sword and the skeletons fell like flies.

Author's Response:

This game was meant to be quite simple and straight-forward with the storyline and atmosphere driving the game, but yeah I still have lots to improve on with making a game balanced. Thanks for the review!

Really good game.but it's a little hard because you can't heal and enemies come at you quickly if there's a lot.Add more stuff in the game. This is a perfect adventure game but just needs a few details.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the compliments, glad you liked the game! I'll keep your suggestions in mind for the sequel.

i got to the boss with low health , and died in 2 shots...
so heal would be better? oO

May 6, 2008

Author's Response:

Yeah health potions might have been a plus rather than regenerating health, but the problem is I didnt make an inventory system. I wasnt sure if my coding skills could handle it, and I didnt want this game to become much more complex anyway. It is a good idea though, and I hope you try this game again at least once. Its a shame you died at one of the bosses, which one?

Thanks for the review! Much appreciated!

"didnt u beta test this game?"

date: May 5, 2008

ok, where to begin.

first off, ur cut scenes need improving. i mean visually they're fine, its just that i ended up skipping a few without realisng. (it takes forever to to go to the next bit of text so i thought it was already finished) might i suggest a "next" button in the bottom right corner so the player can go to the next screen of the cut scene whenever he wants? that way fast readers dont have to wait for the game to 'catch up' and proceed to the next screen of the cut scene.

secondly, there are some bugs. like when the dagger traps or acid traps fall down, sometimes hit my player when im not actually next to them.

also, u realise u can just run and hold the A button for pretty much all enemies except for the spider and some of the goblins with range attacks right? i dunno if u intended that, maybe u did. but i like it anyway lol. also for the ogre boss u can just hold the jump button and A and beat him easily that way.

also, might i suggest having the [Space Bar] to also act as the 'jump' function?

and that spider queen boss was fucking annoying, the random spiders + acid made it frustrating. and why does the game end after the ogre? also i gotta say that i skipped the initial cut scene after a while, i got board. lol.

so basically here's the things needed for the sequel.

slight tweaks in the battle system
no cheap bosses with cheap minions and environmental aid ( cheap =/= difficult ;) )
cutscenes need a "next" button which highlights to signal to the player that he/she can skip to the next frame in order to speed up the process. this way i dont need to skip the intro anymore =)
maybe some customised material? (ability to purchase new armor + weapons, yes i know this isnt an RPG)

now for the good stuff
nice visuals
music suits the game and theme
i like the enemies, and i know the sequel will continue the story (am i right?) so new levels + enemies will inevitably follow.

hmm, that's all for now me thinks

Author's Response:

Thanks for the great review!
Glad you liked the game even though there's a lot to improve upon. I am well aware of the bugs you have mentioned because of many angry and irritated players before you :) I have learned a lot from this game and I am pretty confident that those bugs will not appear in the sequel. I'll do my best just like I did with this one. The reason why Im not gonna fix them in this game is because I'll basically have to rewrite most of the code, and that will take ages...I'll rather take what I have learned and move forward with my next game.

Your suggestions for things in the sequel are all really good and I'll keep them in mind... Thanks again!

ive played some games very similer to this but i didnt find this very interesting. im sure if you make another i would like it much better.

May 4, 2008

Author's Response:

Okay, thanks.
Im still a bit new at making games, and at the moment I am busy making a sequel to The Rise of a Knight. Making this game has taught me a lot, and Im sure I'll be able to prevent the same irritating flaws to re-appear in the sequel. There will also be lot of new and exciting stuff...

Hopefully you'll like it more.
Thanks for the review!
