I have to say, first and foremost, that this was a great game. I've been fooling around on it all day long, and I really enjoyed it.
I do feel though, that you need to work on more variation for units. The same four units through out two continents seems a bit sketchy. Maybe a hero/general class unit.
What I personally would like to see is a permanent overall upgrade system, perhaps along side with the individual upgrade system. Having my high levels die on me gets pretty frustrating after a while. It would be believable that a civilization can get better weapons as you assimilate other nations into yourself.
Another thing that frustrated me was how every time I started a battle, I would have to reorganize the troops. Eventually, I simply ignored the placement and attacked them however my troops were assembled. Maybe you could leave the troops as are?
A lot of other people have mentioned splitting up the map into regional sectors instead of modern day countries, and I would have to concur. I'm sure you understand that Israel did not exist during the age of Genghis Khan, at least, not as a united country, and China's size also varied through out its history, not to mention that for thousands of years, it was referred to as the Middle Kingdom, not the anglicized reference to the last Dynasty.
My last complaint is your button placement. I hate how I have to defeat a country in order to save the game. The main menu button is also too easy to click, and I too often accidentally restart my game that way.
Other than that, I would definitely like to see a second version. I really enjoyed crushing all the other nations. The mission seemed to be superfluous; I think the goal of the game should be to rule the world, simple enough. Maybe more hot keys to change speed. And an easier way to find out which unit needs healing.
Nevertheless, AWESOME GAME.
