I love the game and the setup you have is, for the most part, better than most versions I've seen. I think the grids (especially the more difficult ones) would be improved by some way of keeping the columns and rows from blending into one another. The first thing that comes to mind is alternating shading in the background, but that could get busy-looking or turn into plaid. I've seen the pen used as a sort of center to light-up cross-hairs, so the column and row it was on were highlighted, making you less likely to mark the wrong cell.
The other suggestion I have is for a way to disable the lives function. I use these kinds of games to unwind, and worrying about losing lives for clicking the wrong cell just gets me more wound. Also, I prefer the challenge of figuring it out on my own, without hints (which is pretty much what you buy with those lost lives). I'm not saying get rid of it completely, but making it optional would be nice.
