Author's Response:
There probably won't end up being any 'final product' that combines all the separate chapters. Each chapter will just be a separate flash game.
And they're all going to use the same engine, which I've already finished for this chapter, so it'd be a load of unnecessary effort writing the whole game in another language. There are also probably enough games like that anyway, but there are none that I've seen done in Flash.
Flash games are also more widely accessible and easier to make money from, too. You can play Flash games in your browser from any computer anywhere, but you'd have to download and install a game coded in another language, and people are less inclined to do that. It'd get less noticed.
And I'd not be able to submit it to sites like Newgrounds; instead I'd have to go to those "independent game sites" or whatever, which have a much smaller audience.
So, there's a reason for why I'm making MARDEK in Flash.
It's also more FUN, apparently! I've used other, lower-level programming languages before, but it gets a lot more TEDIOUS making games with those, and I probably wouldn't be able to put up with it for long enough...
I could either make a pretty mediocre 'independent game' in some other language that wouldn't get much notice (it would also take a lot longer), or make a damn good RPG in Flash and get hundreds of fans playing it... I think I prefer the latter.
