"Fantastic Game, for a freelance programmer."

First off I'd like to commend you on creating something truly unique and original at the same time. The usage of flash to split from the traditional box-scrolling text window, with fully animated character sequences is a delicious twist on the original NES graphics. At the same time keeping true to all the hidden Innuendo you find in all those old classics. Such as how are enemies in a place you can't get to yourself without a key? Or how is it the town's folk already know ahead of time of a zombie attack. Those are just some of the examples. You put a lot of unique taste of your own from multiple RPG experience into the title.
Anyways, as much as I'd love to sit here and praise you for all your effort hard work and creativity - all good things have their negative sides.
The only negative I can see so far with this project with yours is the ultimate outcome. Splitting the game into separate chapters is a good way to keep the resource consumption low. Ultimately though you are going to be facing the obvious truth. Unless people are running' Dual Core processors, with over 3GBs of ram the 'FINAL PRODUCT' which I am going to assume will be chapters 1 - 8 combined. It's going to be far too stressful for most common user computers.
Even new aged, which can be purchased through Dell for their little $500 down or, $37 a month payment plan isn't going to be powerful enough to run this game with all 8 chapters combined together.
In short, I know flash is beautiful and you've done a terrific job with it. However you might find later on - as you progress through the chapter design that you are going to need a different language to make this in. I would suggest python, if not python pick up a few books on VB - I know VB's a brutal language as far as resources go. However it's a good direction, and if you're a lazy programmer - which from your work I've seen you are far from it. There's always Java programming.
Anyways, whatever path you decide to go in the end, it'll ultimately be your choice. I'm content with the design, and look forward to the next chapter. I'm not going to bother listing any bugs, because to be honest I haven't encountered any, and the ones that exist you already stated are being corrected shortly. So there's no sense in sounding like a broken record.
Alright well: Other than that I'd also like to commend you on being a tremendously talented programmer, artist, and musician-score composure. You really do have a slew of talents all bundled together, for you to use those talents to bring others a form of entertainment. That's a great thing you do Psuedowolf.

Author's Response:

There probably won't end up being any 'final product' that combines all the separate chapters. Each chapter will just be a separate flash game.
And they're all going to use the same engine, which I've already finished for this chapter, so it'd be a load of unnecessary effort writing the whole game in another language. There are also probably enough games like that anyway, but there are none that I've seen done in Flash.
Flash games are also more widely accessible and easier to make money from, too. You can play Flash games in your browser from any computer anywhere, but you'd have to download and install a game coded in another language, and people are less inclined to do that. It'd get less noticed.
And I'd not be able to submit it to sites like Newgrounds; instead I'd have to go to those "independent game sites" or whatever, which have a much smaller audience.

So, there's a reason for why I'm making MARDEK in Flash.
It's also more FUN, apparently! I've used other, lower-level programming languages before, but it gets a lot more TEDIOUS making games with those, and I probably wouldn't be able to put up with it for long enough...

I could either make a pretty mediocre 'independent game' in some other language that wouldn't get much notice (it would also take a lot longer), or make a damn good RPG in Flash and get hundreds of fans playing it... I think I prefer the latter.

Great in every way except for the saving, I played until the catacombs saved, came back and got boned hard; my save file magically disappeared.
