The Mardek RPG series is a highly popular and clever RPG series by Pseudolonewolf of Fig Hunter games that plays like a tongue-in-cheek Final Fantasy game.

Combat in Mardek RPG is pure Final Fantasy fare, with reaction commands thrown in to spice things up. Graphics in combat are lovely--if you're like me, you'll especially love the forest fish from Chapter 1, which look like they were taken straight out of an M.C. Escher drawing. The graphics in the overworld, strangely, don't match with the graphics in combat at all. While everything is nicely hand-drawn and animated in combat, your characters and the world around them become low-tech sprites of the Final Fantasy IV variety once you return to exploration mode. Some people find this touch nostalgic--others find it aesthetically grating.

Mardek RPG Chapter 1 may seem confusing to you at first--in fact, the characters themselves seem pretty confused about what they're supposed to do or say during the opening sequence! But don't worry. Just keep playing, and you'll quickly realize that the beginning is actually a cute storytelling contrivance by the creator. The game proper has an actual plot worth mentioning, along with a fleshed-out game world, even if it isn't apparent at first.

Mardek RPG Chapter 2 continues the storyline of the previous chapter, but picks up eight years later, with Mardek and Deugan enlisted in the royal guard of Goznor (whatever that is). The tongue-in-cheek, highly self-aware humor of the first game is still here in spades, along with a helping of goofy teen angst. (My favorite line: "Well, I'd only kill a guy if he killed me first!")

Deserves a try if you're an RPG fan.

Looking at past reviews, it shows people are either

A) Illiterate
B) Dumb

Read for God sake! -- the creator clearly states that the bug is pretty impossible to fix at this moment, he even mentioned he'd be adding this chapter and the previous (with COMPLETE fixes) in the new Mardek (Mardek chapter 3) stop down-rating this game because of this. He's fully aware of the bug, he isn't going to fix it because he can't. Try reading the author's comments you fools.

if you cant make a game rite then dont.the worse thing about this game is its a relativly good rpg but bugs make nearly uplayable game just anoyes you because you try reloading and end up starting again and having problems again 3 stras because otherwise from bugs a ok game fixs bugs and this game will be popular wow long review.

For everyone who is experiencing save-related bugs, go to adobe's site, and download the VERY LATEST version of Flash Player 10. Simply having "Flash Player 10" isn't enough. I think this should fix that bug. The new version came out recently, I think, so there's a low chance that anyone has really gotten it yet.

As for my review, I played this game a long time ago, and it was great. Currently, I know that along with finishing up Mardek 3, he's redone the engine for Mardek 1 and 2, so that'll make it even better.

"Fun until I lost my file"

Everytime I die, it says I can go to the main menu or load my game. I save constantly, but when I go to load the game, there's NO FILE. I had a blast playing the game but I don't want to have to do these things over and over again! Please fix this save glitch. :C

fun game but the glitches make it not worth playing. i played the first one and saved my game at the end like it told me to but it doesnt register in this one. then i just died in this one and it somehow made me start a new game near where i died in last attempt but it spawned me in a wall and i cant move. if those bugs would get fixed it would be really cool.

"Good Game"

I played through the first one earlier, and now I've been playing through this one. It's a funny game, but also rather frustrating. I've never lasted this long in a game with random battles, so that's a plus, but they're still frustrating as hell though.

The random boss battle with the heroes really pissed me off too, that just wasn't fun. I was going to give up, but I tried again and made sure to get rid of the healer first, then it was a little easier.

Overall a really well made game, you did a good job. I just lost fighting the zombie lady, so I'll try that again later. I have a feeling that's the end of this chapter but I don't want to fight her again right now.

Also, I never did use the blocking and attack helpers, it just felt clunky.
