"I do not understand why people complain"

date: March 2, 2007

This game is not impossible to beat the only hard part that i encounter was level 5 .

I actually like the controls they where more simple
this game is like a shooter you have to learn to shoot and move same time just move and aim example. Move right shoot / like in that direction shoot left shoot \ direction maybe too complicated to explain.

To beat level 4 is simple just use Scimitar i use it because it was more easy with that weapon first shoot one of the wind things keep moving while shooting at first just concentrate on one of then wind thing and it will be not be so hard after when it turn color green they will help you shoot so shoot one and then when it turns green shoot the next one and the 2 bandits guards are easy to defeat because the wind things will help you.

To beat level 5 keep moving and shooting attack one by one when you defeat both of them a giant appears to defeat him just shoot him 3 or 2 times them shoot one of the towers do not let the giant get to near you so the strategy is shoot him 3 or 2 times them shoot tower 1 or 2 times keep doing that till all 4 towers are broken level 5 is the last level.

And veryyy important!!!! i almost could not play this game you should say to people to update the flash plugging or else it will only appear a flashing screen.

"a good game."

date: March 3, 2007

I don't see why no one can just take the time to play this,it entertained me so much more then some of my other games.

Anyway,i already finished it.Here's a level by level guide.

Level one
Best weapon:dagger

Well, you should not have any big problems here, the dagger will help you kill so much faster as those dragons only need one hit to kill.

Level 2
Best weapon:Any except dagger
Again quite an easy stage, dodge those spears while spamming your own.

Level 3
Best weapon:scimitar or chakram
Any weapon would actually do here against this old geezer but i find spamming the chakram in one line while your allies trap him in one spot pretty effective

Level 4
Best weapon:Scimitar or chakram
Ahhh, the legend,no?The fact is that if you actually bothered to go back to level one and maxed out movement speed and hit points,it would make things a little easier.First things first, spam your weapon against those turrets.I found it quite possible to dodge and shoot. If moving left, shoot the left turret, and vice versa. Then just kill off the guards.

Level 5
best weapon:scimitar or chakram,javelin possible

Again, same weapons. You don't need to focus on one enemy at the time,If you move towards 1 enemy, start shooting.Once those two are down, preferably you have not went down to red status. That golem is not defeatable.Just shoot 2 shots against 1 statue, then shoot the golem to keep him off your tracks.

And you have done it for episode 1.

A mini weapon guide.

Chakram(burst rifle)
Special,3 shots in a row

A useful weapon,if all 3 shots hit,it does more damage then any other weapon.

Scimitar(sniper rifle)
Special,Goes through enemies,

A weapon alot of people seem to be using,i personally prefer the chakram, but this has its uses

Dagger(shotgun)
special,3 direction throw

Quite situational, the only stages this weapon will show max efficiency is stages with crowded mobs.

Javelin(sub machine gun)
Manual spamming

Easily the fastest weapon of the 4.It however, doesn't really have any power.

And that's it,hope more will beat the game!

"Well"

I agree that the controls are awkward. It wouldn't be so much of a problem if the beginning levels were easier, though. 1 and 2 were fine but after a couple tries at level 3 I gave up. (Hearing how frusterating level 4 was from reviews, I wasn't especially eager to play it anyway.) How many levels are there in total? How much of your work was just wasted on 90% of the people who will play this game?

The problem with your theory below is that this game is not halo. It's like trying to compare peanut butter and jelly to a steak. Honestly. This is a great game for what it is (I love the story, graphics, game board concept, and upgrades) but that doesn't change the fact that it is still a browser flash game. The amount of time people are willing to spend mastering something like halo is radically different from the time they expect to spend mastering this game. Especially since there is no end or reward in sight-- so what if someone DOES beat level 4? There will just be level 5, right? Harder and probably not much different from the levels before it. You'll maybe be able to purchase another upgrade...whoopee.

Your two "points" about what makes a good game are entirely true. Easy to learn and difficult to master. But there is a middle-ground where the player needs to be able to just play. Sure, if you master this game you should get other benefits like faster upgrades (due to your gold earning system) and a high score. But what about the people who are not interested in mastering the game, they just want to play (the majority of newgrounds players)? Make plenty of levels that the ordinary person can easily get to and through, even if they can't beat the last ones. Then you have a game that everyone can actually enjoy.

Right now the curve is too steep; there's not enough content for the average/casual player; there's no light at the end of the tunnel...

Author's Response:

Valid points. I wish I had the resources to make this a 20 level game so I could progress each level through a slow curve allowing you to master the intricacies of dodging versus aiming, but I did I best that I could. Not bad considering you paid $0.00 to play it, right? ;)

My comparison with Halo was just to point out that games without skill progression are boring. I wouldn't presume to put this in the same category as a console game. An awesome webgame? I'd like to take a stab at that title one maybe.

"My review + A small guide through lvl 4 and 5"

I dont know why poeple are complaining so much , the game isnt that hard , witht the right skill and weapons you'l get through it just fine.

+ The story and the idea where awesome.
+ Challenging , i like it.
-/+ The Controlls , i got used to it but i still think its verry unhandy.
- Sound , you could have added some extra sound , with like the lvl 5 'boss'.

---

Guide through lvl 4 and 5

Note : This is how i completed the game , i can not guarantee the same results.

Lvl 4:

Weapon : Scimitar.

Projectile Speed : 3/4
Refill Rate: 3
Hit Points: 3/4
Movement Speed : 3

As soon as it starts shoot the right turret , try going left and right to prevent damage , this might require some practice since you will get a truckload of projectiles shot at you.
As soon as you captured the turret capture the other turret (( Watch out that they dont re-capture their turret ))
As soon as you have the turrets simply kill the gaurds , keep an eye on your turrets though to make sure they wont be re-captured.

Lvl 5:

Weapon : Scimitar.

Projectile Speed : 3/4
Refill Rate: 3/4
Hit Points: 4
Movement Speed : 3/4

First kill the right one after that kill the left one.

Note : when you go left the enemy right from you should corner herself this is the time to barage her , same goes for the enemy left from you if you go right.

Now you will get a cinematic introducing the boss , right after the Cinematic shoot the bottom pillars - It might be that you will not sucseed in destroying them both en time so keep your eye on the boss and shoot him when nessasery. ((You wil see the scimitar will push him back quite a distance))
After you sucseeded in destroying the bottom pillars just destroy the upper pillars - Remember to dodge the attacks from the boss.

and Voila done.

---

A great game , i cant wait to see/play the next one.

"Not bad, but it needs work."

The game and plot was interesting, and i like the different weapon choices but...

The control mapping really should have the movement independant from the shooting.

This game was brilliant. It was a bit annoying how you only got a line, though. It made it more challenging but sometimes a bit -too- challenging.

"Great Game! I Finished It!"

date: March 3, 2007

There you have proof its do able all 5 levels! Im not a game genius. But it is annoying especially on lvl 4 and 5 to aim and move once you have the turrets its easy however.

Love the game. Fix the controls and make another!

"Level 4? Level 5!"

date: May 27, 2008

Why is everyone complaining about easy level 4 and not level five? In level five, your victory over two enemies that attacked ALONG your one direction of movement is rewarded by an eternal stall war against an invicible giant... thing. In the few occasions in which the two enemies decided to be fair and not attack along my movement bar, I died in the who-knows-how-many-minutes-long fight against the rock monster. Post-failure-at-life-and-overuse-of-h yphens rage aside, this game was pretty enjoyable-- at least until my suckiness at shooting games decided to show up. Nice storyline and weapon types. The only two improvements that are needed are a circular movement rail on level 5 and maybe some different music. The same song gets repetitive after a while. 4/5

Very good game.
Just a few tips perhaps?
When you take your cursor off the screen, it gives you an auto-pause. This reaaaally irritates me because I tend to move my cursor of the screen when going left and right, and it constantly pauses the game, thus annoying me. D= So possibly give an option on whether that can be enabled and disabled.

Then comes good ol' level 4. xD. Even though you said all you have to do is dodge... that's seemingly impossible. D= I enhanced ALL my stats and still couldn't get passed it. T^T. Perhaps make it a tad easier?

^^ Hope you make a sequel!
