"A bit slow..."

date: October 7, 2009

I know you say in the descriptoin that the game is slow, but it is actually VERY slow. The fact that you must kill enemies with powers to gain XP is not a good idea, because you have to put other units in to slow enemies down, but they kill the enemies, losing a chance to gain XP. But you can't gain anything new without XP, but I honestly don't see a way of making through missions without the extra help because the base takes too much damage! It's a good concept, but too slow and balancing plague it badly. Needs work, but a good start.

"Good Game, though not perfect"

date: September 18, 2009

First off, I enjoyed the game, and even much so: The effort you've put into it is considerable, and the outcome is certainly one of the best tributes to SC here on Newgrounds. Besides, it's arguably the best TD game on this site, too (and yes, you CAN actually beat it, it's just very difficult)

Now, the fact that it's the best doesn't mean you created a perfect game, it just means that out of all games of this category, yours is better then all others, which isn't surprising, looking at the rest.

I don't understand why you are so much against different difficulty levels...it would not make the game *too easy*, since you could still play it on the *normal* mode if you wanted to. Same thing about hotkeys: you don't need to use hotkeys, but for those that have problems it would surely make the game a little less frustrating then it sometimes can be right now, if you have to switch through your abilities clicking them and losing time that you often just don't have... (and hotkeys wouldn't even be difficult to implement, either, so it's even more incomprehensible why you don't want too...)

So, in the End, you made it to create the best defense game (and it still is), but don't be too arrogant to say that it's perfect, for it is not. There are ways to improve it, like it or not...

"Requires Balancing"

by: sunnex
date: September 15, 2009

NOTE: Please remember to weigh this review, thanks!

Very nice effort! Presentation is excellent (albeit, stolen from starcraft), the game has a relatively polished feel, unfortunately UI is lacking a bit in usability (switching between powers and building mode during a level), and the difficulty may need to be balanced a bit (or difficulty options).

I can see the potential for deep game mechanics even without progressing very far. Unfortunately I only got so far as unlocking the third tower (I was overwhelmed by the blue marines). I am not new to tower def, but it seems to me that the game is designed, at least in the early stages, with a very specific strategy expected from the player in order to survive - this unfortunately results in a lack of viable strategies and a lot of trial and error.

Talking of viable strategies, I found the limited 4 slots for towers to be an interesting design choice. Why only 4? Perhaps you gain access to more later on? With more tower slots, the strategy a player can employ would be greatly increased. This gives them, amongst others, a choice of selling and buying a better tower or saving and buying at a later time etc.

Another concern is progression. A little bit of extra xp might help to keep those with lesser patience / time to try this game a bit longer.

Conclusion:
For those looking for a good quality and deep defense game that will last hours, you will likely find this refreshing and challenging. However, the "casual casual" audience will probably have their patience tested here and leave frustrated.
