"The hate-mail part detracted from the score"
date: October 25, 2006
I was thinking three until the hate-mail part. Now I'm thinking two.
If it's going to be considered hate-mail, hate has to be the driving factor behind the words. This wasn't really hate-mail, it was more like written observations. Reading other people's hate-mail leaves me smiling at the stupidity of modern man. Observations leave me thinking "hmm, I suppose I should try and respect their views." - I don't like having to respect other people's views. Short story shorter: the mail just wasn't aggressive enough to be entertaining.
One more thing: making a rebuttal to a passively written letter puts the one making the rebuttal in a negative light. The response was good, it just seemed like a waste to use it here (like beating a six-high with three queens). It came across more as a publicity ploy than anything else.
Aside from that, I thought this was really good. Keep it up.
