but the controls were just off... you cant just push down and go down. you push down and go a little to the left, or a little to the right. screews everything up

I like the graphics a lot , you did a good job. The music is annoying and there should be a "music off" option. I found the controls to be difficult. I never really liked control that use up-down-left-right for diagnolly laid out boreds. It's just ackward I guess. Maybe if the mouse was used for control and the keyboard for acceleration/decelaration. With that, another thing you could do is add a jump feature (possibly using space button)
