"Icons could have a big future!"
date: August 13, 2005
I see Icons becoming the next Erik the Juiceman, Decline, or Tommorows Nobodys, however it had some rough edges, though, and I think that accounts for its score. While it's not a bad score, for the work you put into this you'd probably be more content with a better one.
First of all, I'd like to commend you because from the looks of it you did everything by yourself, including the script and voices. I know how it is to work solo all the time and it can be very difficult to come out with a good end result when there's no second man to check all your work.
Moving on to the flash itself, it had some funny moments and all, but generally I saw no beginning or end. The characters weren't introduced properly (all we know are their names, really), and the scenes could be put in any order, really. The flashback cuts were great but too long. You can't take away from the real characters for that long. Your jokes were great except for the exploding babies thing. I guess it was a bit humorous and I am assuming you're trying to make it a trademark for that character but I'd say that's a step in the wrong direction.
What bugged me most of all in the flash was that Mike's skin color on his face differed to that of his arms. Also, everyone's head was too big. This may be part of your style, but with the way you are drawing your characters and the given proportions, it looks strange. If characters have abnormally large heads, they're usually much larger than the bodies, rather than slightly larger than your typical head size. Know what I mean? I'd make the heads the right size to human proportions, about 6 heads to a body. Except for the little girl of course, but I don't even know her as a main character yet.
Same goes for the other girl that was introduced in the intro. See I can't even remember her name, because only Tree, Mike and Cuba were in this cartoon. It probably could have used some more content. But I see this 4.8mb so you really couldn't have added anymore.
oh the dilemmas we encounter in every day cartooning. Oh well, I'm sure you can find a smart way to squeeze everything that needs to be in a cartoon in 5megs next time, you obviously have the talent. Keep it up and I am looking forward to seeing Icons 2, I'm sure it will be great.
