"numbing"

date: August 22, 2006

This still puts chills through me. Its by far the best serious flash I have ever seen. My god, you could win awards for that. submit it to some anti-war organization, it is more moving than you could imagine.

"Well done"

date: August 20, 2006

Very well put together. It really shows what could happen in the event of a nuclear war and the results. The animations were timed well with the music, and overall the music enhanced the short to an incredible degree. I've seen people saying that the music was happy and didn't fit the short, but they're obviously mistaken since the song isn't really a happy song. I felt that it was a poweful short overall. Everything just..fit, well done.

"Touching"

date: August 12, 2006

This stands as the best piece on Newgrounds, at least, that's what I think. I thought that the music was set to the animation very well. I think that this should automatically be sent via E-Mail to every person in the world, it would certainly serve as an exelent salve to some of my fears right now.

"Oh my god."

date: August 11, 2006

This is absolutely... beautiful. I am not yet finished watching this, but I feel a need to comment as I go. (Hope you don't mind, this will make it quite a long review.)

I'm currently at the part showing the Oval Office. I have to disagree with the person who posted before me. This is much more touching than showing people being hurt, since in this type of attack the people would simply be there one minute, then gone the next. I am not yet finished with the flash, like I said, but I have already decided to watch everything you've made, add this to my favorites list, and link it to all of my friends daily. It's unbelievable.

Wow. The end, that scene when the flag is flying... I've never seen anything so touching. I'm utterly in awe. This flash is easily the most beautiful, yet incredibly sad things that I've seen. I respect you immensely for making this, and I hope others realize what a work of art and how incredibly frightening this actually is. You're a brave and talented person to use your skills to deliver such a powerful message.

Thank you.

To people reviewing that the damage is inaccurate, think for just a moment that this movie wouldn't be nearly as touching if it just showed dirt. As a very wise man (and one of my idols, Mark Twain) once said, "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.” Well, this holds true for this flash as well. You don’t stop watching movies just because they have a little blip in the accuracy of history or science or whatever the case may be.

To those saying that the flag at the end (as well as the bombing being done mostly in America) shows that the creator of the flash only cares about America, I have to say I disagree again. Personally, and I may be wrong in this, I felt that the flag was a bit of dark irony. The country is lying in ruin and millions are dead and dying, but hey! God bless America, right? …Right?

And to the amazing and talented creator of this flash: You’ve inspired me to make flashes similar to this one. It won’t be as good, but I feel I have a duty to try. I hope you don’t mind.

"Insparational"

date: August 6, 2006

wow great movie you made.

i liked the way you put bright eyes on because when the bomb explodes it says "how can a light be so bright" and when you show hte wreckageit goes "suddenly turn so dim" that is excellent work.

Only it would of been good showing some people getting hurt it would seem sadder ^^.

You really put a light to my eyes i had to watch this and when i did it was great made me sad.

Great work in your movie

"it's horrible that this happened"

date: July 23, 2006

it's really unfortunate that people actually did this to each other. i have never really thought about what happened in 1945, but this reminded me that hundreds of innocent people, including children, lost their lives. i thought the music kinda ruined it, though. no offense, but the music was, in my oppinion, too happy to be used in a flash about nuclear bombs tearing Hiroshima appart. some parts in the chorus did make it sad though, like when he says "bright eyes", but when he said "burning like fire",it sounded just a tiny bit too happy. other than that, a great flash.

"An unenviable circumstance, a reminder"

date: July 17, 2006

What's seen here is something too many people (in my humble opinion) too often broom under their radar. It's not impossible, nor unimportant, and won't go away like a bad dream.

The mechanics here are superb. I think the animation wasn't heavy because it's meant to be embedded in the viewer's mind. Conversely, a fast paced, sparks flying, metal music scored animation would overload the brain and steal away the meaning. The sound chosen for this, the song playing throughout the length of main imagery, is keen. The lyrics eerily take note of exactly what goes on.

Very well thought out.

"Music really doesn't bring it alive..."

date: June 26, 2006

THe music they used as a background was terrible. I don't mean the music itself was bad; I'm just saying that it wasn't a very good choice. I understand the whole "artsy-playing-happy-music-over-scenes-of-destruction" thing, but I think that's cliche and overused. I actually played a song of my own (well, a song by the band Bush, called "40 Miles from the Sun") and it worked about a billion times better. If you've got that song, try it. It's phenomenal and much more emotionally colorful.

"Very well presented."

date: June 18, 2006

One note: The description is slightly innaccurate. The closest call to WW3 was avoided some time afterward. To quote from Wikipedia (see the "World War 3" entry, specifically the "Close Calls" subsection):

"September 26, 1983, when Soviet early warning system showed that a US ICBM attack had been launched. Colonel Stanislav Petrov, in command of the monitoring facility put the warning down to computer error and did not notify his superiors, who would have most likely launched a counter-attack. "

Regardless of the slight offset in the description, this flash delivers an extremely powerful message, and does so impeccably. Graphics are well done, animation is fluent, sound speaks for itself. Great style - use of transitions bring the situation to life for the viewer.
