by: Challa
date: August 8, 2005

the bombings on hiroshima was an act of genocide....commit by united states...they killed babies to mothers....this was not an attack against a military institution, but against civilians, to children who didnt even understand the word war.

people always say....the bombings helped make a quick end to the war...tell that to the hundreads and thousands of people who died at hiroshima and nagasaki u cold hearted devils. the war ended with the blood of innocent.
it was a holocaust in its own right..fuck u america...fuck u

"not quite how it's going to be"

date: August 7, 2005

While the this flash does portray what a full scale nuclear attack on the US might look like (although it would have caused much more damage then was shown) in the days of the cold war, it doesn’t hold true to how one would occur today. In modern warfare today there is no place for a full scale nuclear attack against any country, especially one against the US, all the countries who have a large enough stockpile to commence a full scale nuclear war also understand the concept of mutually insured destruction. This concept is what kept the cold war, from becoming world war 3. They both new that if one used nuclear weapons the other would as well there fore effectively destroying each other and no sensible leader would want that.
But for all intents and purposes lets say that somebody did launch a strike such as the one depicted in the flash. None of the missiles would ever make it to the target. This is because of the national missile defense system that spans across the US and is specifically designed to take out ICBMs. In the world of today if there is anything to fear it would be the threat of a suitcase nuke. These could cause devastating amounts of damage in a highly dense area such as New York City.
One of the things most people don't understand is how many lives these weapons have saved. So many fail to understand that these weapons of mass destruction have saved many more lives then they have taken. Lets take the bombing of Japan in WWII as an example. While many innocent lives were lost many more were spared. These bombings help bring a quick end to the war. Had the US invaded Japan many of Americans would have died in that invasion and countless more Japanese would have died including civilians who were prepared to meet and fight the American invaders even if they were only were armed with pitchforks. So instead of having at the very least millions die, they were spared. As have countless other people.
But this is not to say that every nation should have nuclear weapons. In fact it is quite the opposite, as many nations would most certainly use them for purposes that would be, well let’s deem it less then good. So while there does need to be a scaling down of nuclear stockpiles and preferably no more countries acquiring these arms, there is no need for total disarmament.
And once again a very well done flash, please keep up the good work.

"good for what it is"

I've seen this some of this artists work in the past so theres nothing really new here. Very sterile flash with wonderful graphics and emotional images. But it's no different than past flashes done by the artist. Dont get me wrong, it has passion and foresight but I guess its missing some depth and substance.

Unfortunately, most people who watch this wont get it... it was, all in all, a very saddening and true-to-life description of nuclear war.

Einstein was right.

"pretty good"

Your depiction of nuclear war however, is somewhat inaccurate. All the airbursted ICBMs should have completely leveled everything to the ground. There wouldn't be any buildings standing after something like that. ICBMs are far more powerful than the bombs that were dropped on Japan. An interesting thing about nuclear weapons is that the explosion itself is not nearly as damaging as the resulting wind that rips everything into dust. Sure, the explosion completely vaporizes everything in its wake, but it is the wind that does massive damage for miles and miles. You should watch the movie “Threads”, because it’s the best movie that describes the effects of nuclear war. I also liked your sarcastic special thanks to Oppenheimer.

...so I will attempt not to be one myself. That being said:

Graphics: Technically "good", if by good I mean well-drawn.... although MOST if not all of it looked like traced images, which even if they were not, still looks not-good.

Animation: Was there any? A bright flash of light between one image and another, along with some minor motion tweens for planes was all I saw.

Plot: Not applicaple, seeing as there was none. American cities got nuked, as far as I could tell.

Other: Dirt, smog, dust, or the general results of a nuke going off in a city were not there... very clean distruction it seems.

The message: I'm pretty sure it was "we're all doomed", although it might have been "we're all doomed because of America", or maybe "America is doomed", but it's not really clear.

Conclusion: I felt like I was watching a slide-show of stock photography of cities, with a musical backdrop, and ofcourse no plot to speak of. Humor gets a "1" because of the nonsensical ending + the music.
