"Very nice"

date: October 21, 2007

I actually really liked this game.

Well done. Loved the power ups, especially the bar telling how long they last.

No instructions, but it's pretty simple to figure out... Keep "picking up" (by touching) blocks that are the same color as you and avoid the others.

"Could play it all day."

date: April 11, 2006

Starts a little slow, but it soon speeds up. The power-ups are excellent. It's a lot of fun. There is nothing bad I can find to say about it.

"About as fun as the original."

by: Bezman

how I played this
==================

Played 1x with mouse, 1x without, then about 4 more times with (getting to level 3 a couple of times).

some selected aspects
===================

+++ Some interesting power-ups. I specially like '6th sense'. Nice programming.

++++ Solid gameplay.

+ morphing squares add visual interest

+ Levels encourage replay and lend a greater sense of progression.

--- No personal high scores recorded.

-- I always feel with games like this that we should be able to start at a higher level to eliminate the boring easy part. In this game, maybe we could have the option of starting at the start of any level we've completed.

- You could do more yet to change the visuals of the game. Maybe introduce a bg, change the tune, give the blocks textures?

- The way the squares are coming isn't 100% clear. In the original, there was always one of each colour coming from each direction. Here, it's not so easy to work out where the next one will come from.

overall
========

You've expanded on the original game well. Some fun additions.

However, I was never entirely sure about the whole addition of random power-ups. It just seemed to dilute the core gameplay.

"fun"

date: February 16, 2005

This was beautifully simple, can't have taken all that long to make after creating the initial engine, but it was fun to play and mildly addictive. One hit kills was annoying. Sound was ok, couldn't have been much better I suppose. A good achievement.

"Perfecty Legal"

date: February 14, 2005

Ok, as to whether this game is legal two questions come up:

1) Did he, without consent or license from the original creator, use the entirety or same source code for this rendition? Ten to one, no. There may be similarities, but I doubt he lifted the code from the original.

2) Did he present the original idea as his own, therefore infringing on intellectual property rights? No. It was stated at least twice that this was based off of Shapiro's idea, and both notices were prominently placed.

Now, if he tries to sell/license his game he'll have to fork royalties over to Shapiro, but I doubt that's going to happen.

End result? LEGAL!

"Great remake--but is this infringment?"

date: February 14, 2005

People have said this is stolen... well, I think its not technically stolen, IF he has the consent of the original game's designer. Maybe he can respond to this review with that info.

The game is a great remake of that other game, with powerups and squares changing at different levels. The controls are perfect, but the game starts too easy and gets too hard too quickly. I do not understand the impact of Grow and Shrink boxes---they do not have a large impact on the game.

Except for the questionable legality of this game, I wholeheartedly recommend it. I've reviewed this game as if it was a fair game. However, I must consider that this game is somehow infringing on someone elses work.

Love to see a reponse on this.

"Solid, but needs Polish"

date: February 14, 2005

For all you stupid haters, he tells you IN THE FLASH this is a clone. A clone, I think he brings a lot of fresh life to. The powerups and 'leveling up' add to the play, and it's just more balanced and less tedious. The difficulty ramps up a little more gently since the squares don't vary in speed as badly.

On the other hand, these are just suqares. This may be all they need to be, but there were still layers that could use imagination. Miinus one point for the very short techno loop soundtrack. Even the buttons on the menu could have looked less awkward, but I that's all cosmetic.

This is a keeper. Fun and easy.
