"A cheap game that looks decent."
date: July 25, 2004
The graphics are all stolen. The physics suck. Half the enemies don't even die correctly. The music doesn't even loop. This is a half assed game that was released WAY before it was ready to be played. It COULD be decent if you fixed a lot of things. For example: use a variable to determine the x velocity of the guy, instead of just stopping him whenever you fire. Give it some kickback, but don't just make him stop dead in the middle of something. Also, make sure the enemies DIE when you shoot them. Sometimes they would stop hurting me, but would still be even walking around. Also, there's no incentive to killing enemies. No points, or score, and the coins are super easy to get. Okay, you can KINDA pound out the basics of making a GAME, but it's unoriginal, half stolen, and still buggy. Keep trying. If you take what you have and work with it, you COULD make a really neat game. Also, try more challenging enemies, I.E. something that doesn't just walk slowly back and forth. As well, when you TOUCH an enemie, don't just give a cheap "you lose" sign and restart, make him blow up or something, and give an ending scene, then offer a score, and give the game a MENU, rather than just throwing them in it. Make a cheap title to display, and toss in a couple sound effects, maybe rip some voices from Worms or something interesting to liven up the action. :P Make something pre-scripted happen, like one of the enemies getting scared and falling off to kill himself. Use references to other popular flash movies and games, whatever. :P Just spice it up some, kid, and you'll have something to be proud of. Also, on the same line of his stopping when the shotgun fires, have him speed up and slow down dynamically, I.E. when you hold down right, it give x.momentum+1 or something, and every 1/4 of a second, give x.momentum-1, and then set a limit to that so he doesn't just keep speeding up forever. :P Good luck. I'll be looking for Level 005!
