...so it was like 6 AM.
Me and Dan (AKA Synj) had just finished playing 'Burnout 2' for like...5 straight hours, when we damn well should have been working on something worthwhile. I go back to dick around on design stuff, when I hear the magic words: 'Sweet - Adam Phillips released a new toon.'
The master of Flash storytelling was back at it, and has been blazing his way up the charts at NG all day. Well deserved, no doubt.
By now, most NG users and fans have seen and experienced 'Bitey of Brackenwood', the first big Brackenwood production, introducing our new and best pal, Bitey. 'Prowlies at the River' is the second installment, and to put it short and sweet, it kicks major ass. Sitting at around 6½ minutes - every split second is golden. It'll easily make your day. You might as well quit reading this article and check the film out now, if you haven't yet.
Still with me? Killer.
Prowlies at the River was good. Great. Amazing, even. Phillips paints visuals and tells stories like no other. Brackenwood is a beautiful world loaded with interesting and original characters...and practically endless possibilities. (Great music and audio, too!) I can completely see a full length movie taking the world by storm. I've noticed slight differences from its predecessor - in style, speed, and animation quality - Adam is progressing at an insane rate...and 'Prowlies' also includes some innovative new camera and particle Action Scripting to bring special effects to a whole new, crazy level. If you have a dream, idea, or even a simple plan, you can do it with Flash. The program never ceases to amaze me. As a matter of fact...with the release of Prowlies, Adam Phillips has solidified the fact that Macromedia Flash isn't just a program for weekend hobbyists. Flash is a tool with never-ending capabilities, used to convey endless imagination in every imaginable way to a planet full of people waiting to be captivated. Phillips knows this, and has successfully set a new standard for Flash artists and animators everywhere. What the hell does he have up his sleeve next? Time will tell. And patience. I hate patience. Damn.
One thing is for sure, though - this man animates water really f&#@ing well.
Currently located in Sydney, Australia, Phillips has been working with Disney for the past 11 years as an Effects Animator. Flash is relatively new to him, which is surprising to say the least - but it's a constant learning process for every Flash user alike.
Phillips has been using Flash for about 4 years now, and has already seemed to have mastered it. Still, it's a constant learning process for him, as it is for every Flash user alike. Now, I talk to a vast array of different people from Newgrounds on a regular basis. Aspiring animators, creators, artists, and more. To a lot of them, Adam Phillips is an idol - with a love/hate relationship. I constantly hear people getting downhearted and losing their drive because Phillips might just be 'too good'. People fail to understand that Phillips has been devoted to his skill for life, constantly honing his abilities, fine tuning, and learning everything he could. With no formal training, it's safe to say that it wasn't a carefree and simple ride. He didn't wake up one morning completely talentless, eat magic bacon and eggs, then effortlessly blast out 'Bitey of Brackenwood'. He's had his ups and downs, just like we all do. He makes mistakes, constantly learns, and progresses forward, just like all of us...and he had a starting point, just like we all did. What we do in between is based on what we desire to become, and the steps we take to reach our goals, one at a time - struggle after struggle, step after step. I'm sure Adam has been through his fair share of people who have had no faith, situations that got him down, and countless personal struggles. Bottom line, if you have drive and dedication to your art, no matter what it is, you can accomplish anything you want - and ride on clouds. Phillips is older, wiser, and more experienced than a lot of us at NG. His work should be an inspiration to us all, and not a discouragement from using the gifts a lot of us were born with. Flash a smile, get some coffee, and keep doing what you do.
I'm personally grateful that Phillips has decided to grace NG with his work. Let's face it, it's a seriously good break from the tits, ass, blood, and gore that NG is swamped with. It's good to see various artists come out and make NG shine in the right light, and Phillips is no exception. You should drop your thanks in some of his reviews, Christ knows I need to. I look forward to his future works, and wish him the best of luck in what he strives to accomplish.

Also, roll by Adam's site and see what's going on. Open the gates to Bitey Castle.
Peace & love to everyone.
