Vietnamese ArtHoi An, Vietnam.

Tom and ThanhDuring the fall of 2001, I had the pleasure of spending two weeks in Vietnam, mostly in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Hanoi). I'm not a big souvenir shopper, so I hadn't bought much during my trip. It wasn't until I travelled to central Vietnam and visited the town of Hoi An that I suddenly got a bit impulsive.

I met an artist named Thanh, whose oil paintings really caught my eye. I ended up buying seven of his paintings for $80 total. It is common to negotiate prices in Vietnam, but I didn't try to talk his prices down; that sort of thing didn't seem fair when they were already so cheap. I ended up spending a lot more getting them framed in the US!

Below are pictures I took of some of the paintings!
