Critics love to blast this site for poking fun at serious topics such as school shootings, but there is a far greater problem relating to the school shootings, and that problem is approximately 95% of the population.
Ever since Columbine, goth kids all over the country have been ridiculed and shunned to a far greater extent than normal. How do I know this? Because many of them have been writing to me. As much as critics would hate to admit it, this site actually serves as somewhat of a "shelter" for people who are misunderstood. In that sense, it is doing a great service.
I have a lot of letters I have considered publishing, but this one was definitely a good example of the worst-case scenario which is happening at many schools. It is a letter from Aaron Cole, who was expelled from his school for being "threatening to other students."
Read, and reflect.
Dear Tom,
I'm a 15 y/o student who USED to go to high school in Hillsboro, OR. I think
you may find this very interesting, as we are both under heat from Columbine
incident. Now, i'm a pretty big fan of your site since my girlfriend got me
hooked to it. Assassin site is a blast, especially since I think Golgo 13
rocks. Anyways, I lead a fair life....good girlfriend and a few friends and
trying to get new friends. I hang out with a guy who always wore a trench to
school, and used a briefcase instead of a bag. A few months back in English,
i did a report on High powered sniper rifles and handguns, and why they were
illegal, why they were expensive, and why government banned them, etc. I did
fairly good on the report, social life was doing fine, till Columbine. The
news had clearly stated that people like Harris and Kleybold (and i might
add Harris was one hell of a funny guy...i played Quake against him a bit)
should NOT be ridiculed because they are different. The day i walked into
school, everyone kept their distance from me and my friend. I was considered
the number one person to bring a gun to school. That night, while i was
trying to get to sleep, Police knocked on my door and came into house and
started questioning me and that they were told i threatned 2 girls and a
guy. This, as you might expect, was complete bullshit. The people in
question had been bugging me, and I had ASKED to have my classes switched
because of them. That same week on Friday, police arrested me in school for
same reason they came to my house. They said I had harrassed these people,
and i was brought up on 9 counts. 3 counts of menacing, 3 counts of
harrasment, and 3 counts of Intimidation 2nd. If anyone was gonna be
arrested it should have been her. I recieved a copy of the police report and
the people had said i was heavily into guns of maximum firepower (who isn't?
it turns girls on!) and that all i did was speak german. The night i was arrested, i was flipping through TV. I headlined
on FOX News at 10, Koin 6, Northwestern News Channel 8, and others. All this
because 3 trendy/preppy idiots had had a grudge against me and thought best
way to get me in trouble was blame Columbine on me. Later, in news reports
on the radio, and in call in talk on radio, people had said i influenced
Columbine students, and all shootings/bombings that happened in OR. I was
the media scapegote. I can no longer go to school because of this. Should I
go back to any school in oregon, they will have me brought up on
tresspassing charges and put in jail. I can't walk the streets of my own
city either without having to look back to see if some asshole jock is gonna
try and run me over or throw shit at me. Everyday, jocks pass me and yell
things like "Psycho!" or "Fucking asshole!" and give me the finger. We share
the exact same problems...narrowmindedness in the people. I know the
difference between real killing and fake killing, as do you. Fake killing is
fun, and brings out a way to release tension, such as your site does for me
whenever i see rap on MTV. The people will always try to blame the most
least-defended individuals. In this case, you are getting attacked for your
assassin website, which i thought was clever, as do many of my goth friends.
I agree, there is no anti-social promoting within it, just plain old fun.
Apparently, the people of the US are so scared right now, they will take the
steps to persecute individuals like ourselves to ensure that their children
grow up safe. But what does it really prove in the end? What does all this
teach the children? it teaches them that if a problem arises, blame the
little guy who always sits alone, or the guy who never talks to anybody, or
the guy who clubs a seal on his comp everynight. Anything to get the people
to think that they are safe from the threat, but the truth is....the threat
still lingers as long as they blame the wrong people, such as us.
One of your fans,
Aaron Cole
Aaron will be finishing high school in a community college, because unlike the jock assholes who pick on him, Aaron actually has a future. Email Aaron and tell him what you think!
