Rants & Raves / Sticky Mouse Traps

And people think I'm sick.

Looking at this website, you probably think I'm a pretty sick guy who tortures animals. The truth is, I love animals. That's why I am extremely disturbed by GLUE MOUSE TRAPS. We had a mouse problem in our apartment over the winter, so I went to the dollar store to find the cheapest solution. Low and behold, I found these wonderful glue traps. They looked entertaining enough.

So I took a box home and set them out... A few days later, it caught a baby mouse! Here was the sick part - the mouse was still alive, but there was no way to pull it out of the glue. The only humane thing to do was wrap it in plastic and suffocate it, or stomp on it. A more timid person would probably throw it in the trash and pretend the incident never occured.

There are live traps that let you set the mouse free after he is caught. There are also instant death traps that kill the mouse before he realizes what has happened (although one of my roommates did manage to catch just a tail once). These glue traps are somewhere in between. Some sick tool of satan. I dunno. They are just plain evil. I gotta draw the line somewhere. The box art is classic, though.

This brand doesn't capture the desperation nearly as well as "DEAD END" brand mouse traps. What's the point of torturing mice if you can't have some entertaining imagery to go with it? At least DEAD END is honest - this brand portrays a very content mouse who doesn't seem to mind the fact that he is about to starve to death at the bottom of the trash can.

Here's a tip, people. If you want to abuse animals, go do it at Club a Seal. Don't do it with GLUE TRAPS.
