How greedy do people get... They're prepared to break down a door and kill a fellow citizen to get a Christmas bargain; OMG, that's just sad. Some Americans have totally lost their sense of value and empathy.

I, too, would kill for those prices. XD

But seriously, they should hire more security guards for Black Friday if this kind of shit is going to happen.

I often hear communists and even many Christians complaining that the "new gods we worship" are money and consumerism.

I usually think it's a load of bullshit, but I cannot help the fact that this event reminds me of the fatal tramplings that take place in places like India or Saudi Arabia during mass pilgrimages.

More proof that Americans have no manners, as this is what happens when people from any other country would happily form an orderly queue...

So do I, in a way. Going so far as to call them "gods" is a bit hyperbolic. Conditioned to spend money like Pavlov's Dogs salivating at the sound of a bell, or like a rat repeatedly pushing a lever to obtain cocaine, is more accurate, I think.

God this is exactly the kind of consumerism that is going to end the world. People willing to ignore a life for the best gift. When will we see that Christmas and American consumption has gone too far? I mean if people aren't gonna take better precautions when stampeding through the doors, then these workers deserve hazard pay for running the risk of being trampled.

It's ridiculous how people act when it is time for Christmas shopping. They seem to become more like animals than people in their actions. This incident highlights this and I hope that there is never a repeat of this.

Some Americans have totally lost their sense of value and empathy.

Some people are. You're making it sound like this is an American trend to kill people for sales.

Last year at Best Buy the people they had watching the crowds played Guitar Hero in a heated tent and never came out. They had a sign in sheet for the order that people arrived in, but in the morning everybody swarmed the entrance and when asked about the list and the order of arrival I was told, and I quote, "I don't really know who put the list there, but it's only supposed to be used in the event of a riot."
It took all I had not to ask where he'd like me to start it. In the meantime, around 6 A.M., an old lady had a heart attack and we actually had to go to the tent, after they had already been informed of her condition, and point out that she should be brought into the warm tent to wait for an ambulance so she wouldn't die of hypothermia waiting for the doctors.
Black Friday is a bad idea, and should be outlawed.

The same way you prevent loiterers any other day of the year. If they start assembling before 6 or so, you teargas them and hold them on loitering and intent to riot.

If you do that on black friday then all the sales will simply move to anothey day and instead of black friday we will have the same thing on black saturday.

On all days. There should never be an occasion on which the health of an individual or a crowd is considered less important than a few dollars off a copy machine. Whatever day the company advertises their version of Black Friday, that day an officer will be waiting at that store to turn people away or take them into custody.

They should at least have cops at the stores to keep people from getting out of hand.

Well I'd probably laugh if I saw that, honestly, and then help the man. But you can't make the call that all Americans are greedy. One person was killed because he got trampled on, so Americans are greedy? What about all the soccer fans over in Europe who are killed or beaten up over a game that involves 10 guys kicking a ball into an oversized net (and still they miss)? Does that make all Europeans violent?

This is bad, but I heard something today that made me not want to go shopping for the rest of my life. Two guys in a Wal-Mart both wanted the last plasma screen t.v., and when one of them finally got it, the other one picked up a shotgun that had fallen on the floor and had the trigger lock broken off, loaded it and shot him.

I don't care how awesome the definition is, it is not quite that good.

Just proves that Americans have a big consumerism problem going on, also most Americans tend to be self-centered which deepens the need for instant gratification.

That shit wouldn't have happened in any other state.

This case is pushing it to the extreme, but this could have happened in any other major city.

Its just the tip of an iceberg of a problem.

Compulsive consumerism is and has become an integral part of modern western society, without it many businesses that are connected to this would collapse and go bankrupt.

Enormous credit debt isn't only an North American phenomenon however, just look at southern Europe, Asia, and most 3rd world countries are seriously indebted.

Its human nature to live beyond our means of living.
Especially since a lot of people are doing exactly the same thing you are, sucking up tons of debt.
Like a thousand bleating lambs being controlled by a few herders.

Wanting just a bit more and striving for a better life is natural, and people take advantage of this.

Just food for thought

totally unrelated to this, but once on vacation, i and like 300 other people were looking at a glaciar, about 70 pushed and shoved and stomped and screamed,"this is once in a lifetime". Just one wallmart, give me a break, just a few idiots

thats the biggest load of bullshit I have heard since I joined NG. Black friday is essential plus I was at Best Buy on black friday there was a swarm and I fought my way through a few people hurt and a old lady but that doesnt me I got a 56' flat screen a Laptop and new copy of FFVII. and that is totally unconstitional the stores usually loves publicity like that.
