Teenager's perspective on life 2008-11-28 21:56:10 Reply

I have a couple observations about life that I would like to share. Mostly about teenage life.

1. Don't judge other people. The more you judge others the less friends you will have. I know this because I have friends from all different nationalities and income levels. They all seem the same to me.

2. When someone wrongs you, so what? When someone says F@ck you, how does that make you inferior or weak? So what if that person thinks you are stupid. It doesn't make you stupid at all. Its these little things that starts fights in school. So what?

3. Teenagers do not know what love is. We're too young to have girlfriends/boyfriends and we think we're in love. Yet we are too immature to know what makes a marriage last.

4. Let other people have what they want. It doesn't make you weak. It in fact makes the other person weaker because they don't have the experience of obtaining what they want by their own effort. Just give them the answer to problem 6.

5. Follow the rules. There is no such thing as a stupid rule. Following rules will help you when you are a parent or manager or supervisor and you make the rules.

6. There is a reason for everything. people are not born athletic, smart, or sociable. If you work at it, you get it. People are also not born selfish, hateful, or depressed. There is a reason behind that.

7. We care too much about the little things. Music, clothes, how far you sag your pants does not make you cool. Cool people are those who can lead, who are nice, and who help others.

A teenager's perspective on life.

I agree with most of this, but #5 is complete bullshit.
There are such things as stupid rules.
and most rules are made to be broken atleast once in life.

Number 3 is right on the button. I'm 16 and I know that if I get a girlfriend, there is a huge chance that I will think I'm in love, but I won't be. I hate those fucking people who just start dating and they already say "I love you", it fucking pisses me off.

True, by judging others and hating "subcultures" one closes the doors to friendship and socialization.

I am not commenting in here, I am sick of debating the meaning of "love". The word is now a twisted concept to me.

This is a perfect example of a HUMAN'S outlook on life. Instead of saying that it is his "(incorrect) view on life.", call it "One view on life." We all have different opinions on everything, because we are all trained to think differently.

Yah, this is just me talking, a teenager among millions of others. Everyone has their different views for their own reasons.

As for #5, I think that when a teenager sees a rule their first impulse is to break it ("twidling" your thumbs under the desk.) I think that teenagers think that if they follow the rules they are weak, and if they break them they become stronger. I think the opposite is true. When you obey the rules you show strength by restraining your own impulsive nature. While others who break the rules show that they cannot control their actions.

But then again, that's just me.

This may be the only true one, but there are so many people that you know what they are like just by looking at them or llistening to their conversation.

2. When someone wrongs you, so what? When someone says F@ck you, how does that make you inferior or weak? So what if that person thinks you are stupid. It doesn't make you stupid at all. Its these little things that starts fights in school. So what?

Rule #1, dont be a pussy, that will just get you pushed around life. You should try your best to be liked enough to where people dont fuck with you, but if they still do make them not want to again.

3. Teenagers do not know what love is. We're too young to have girlfriends/boyfriends and we think we're in love. Yet we are too immature to know what makes a marriage last.

Well maybe im a special case but thats bullshit. Ive never been in love with a girl, but if you care for anything else, then you will know what it feels like. A female (or guy for girls and fags) isnt different from anything else...except the sex.

4. Let other people have what they want. It doesn't make you weak. It in fact makes the other person weaker because they don't have the experience of obtaining what they want by their own effort. Just give them the answer to problem 6.

What, all most people want is attention and to be liked. Of course a lot of people (mostly girls) will do anything for that.

5. Follow the rules. There is no such thing as a stupid rule. Following rules will help you when you are a parent or manager or supervisor and you make the rules.

I guess if following the rules as in not killing, I guess its alright. But if you have to break a rule to do a right, then so be it. Rules are put there as guidance, it wasnt passed by Congress was it?

6. There is a reason for everything. people are not born athletic, smart, or sociable. If you work at it, you get it. People are also not born selfish, hateful, or depressed. There is a reason behind that.
Are you kidding me, of course people are born athletic. How many blacks have you seen that can hop like a monkey (i wonder why) and ran as fast as a horse out of the womb, without any training. The ones that train hard and already have the great athleticism are the ones that are godly. Smarts are nothing more than the ability to retain information. You can be as smart as you want, but most of your limits are reached at an early age. And you can learn to socialize at 35 years old, after being under a cave all your life.
7. We care too much about the little things. Music, clothes, how far you sag your pants does not make you cool. Cool people are those who can lead, who are nice, and who help others.

Also true, but nothing I do at all is to be cool. Believe me, I could easily be one of the most popular kids in high school, college, or wherever else i go. But I am perfectly happy just doing what I enjoy.

You shouldn't judge people negatively before getting to know them well enough first, however you should have some sense of judgment to know the difference between right from wrong when choosing your friends. You shouldn't blindly trust people.

2. When someone wrongs you, so what? When someone says F@ck you, how does that make you inferior or weak? So what if that person thinks you are stupid. It doesn't make you stupid at all. Its these little things that starts fights in school. So what?

So what, I'm still a rockstar? That apparently doesn't quite work as expected in real life. You shouldn't let yourself get bullied by others or ignore them nonetheless.

3. Teenagers do not know what love is. We're too young to have girlfriends/boyfriends and we think we're in love. Yet we are too immature to know what makes a marriage last.

Very true, I cannot agree more. I have seen young couples fall in love, these people are usually very rare to find and have quite strange personalities that find hope and escape in each other. It is beautiful however your average school relationships are not meant to last.

4. Let other people have what they want. It doesn't make you weak. It in fact makes the other person weaker because they don't have the experience of obtaining what they want by their own effort. Just give them the answer to problem 6.
What about your own needs? You have needs as well. Why spoil somebody else? All you are doing is letting that person to take advantage of you.
5. Follow the rules. There is no such thing as a stupid rule. Following rules will help you when you are a parent or manager or supervisor and you make the rules.
Women not being able to vote was once a rule. Does that make it stupid? Owning slaves was allowed once. Does that make it rightful? Just because something is a rule does not necessarily mean it is all-good. Rules exist to keep people under control. They can't control it, they make a consequence for it. Following rules is not be a lifestyle, rather a choice. If you are scared of the consequence then don't make that choice. Simple.
6. There is a reason for everything. people are not born athletic, smart, or sociable. If you work at it, you get it. People are also not born selfish, hateful, or depressed. There is a reason behind that.

People are born with mental disabilities, that is an exception. However past experiences certainly do reflect who you are this very day. Although how smart you really are is not up to you. Grades earned in school do not necessarily reflect a person's intelligence.

7. We care too much about the little things. Music, clothes, how far you sag your pants does not make you cool. Cool people are those who can lead, who are nice, and who help others.

What kind of world do you live in? A perfect one? If that is whats "cool" there then congratulations babe, however all the "popular" kids somehow always seem to linger around material objects, drama, and attention.

A teenager's perspective on life.

This is coming from a 15 year old girl. I am a teenager myself, my views are rather thought out in an odd way, I hope this brought some thought into the topic :)

True, by judging others and hating "subcultures" one closes the doors to friendship and socialization.

The one to judge negatively is probably the more "immoral" one. Atleast in some cases.

2. When someone wrongs you, so what? When someone says F@ck you, how does that make you inferior or weak? So what if that person thinks you are stupid. It doesn't make you stupid at all. Its these little things that starts fights in school. So what?
People often pick on people to cover their own defects. If someone bullies you, you should be the better man and walk away, but that doesn't mean that you won't fight back either.

I agree, most people just pick on others to cover for themselves. It doesn't matter which flaw it would be. Sometimes people will do it to piss people off, or get attention from others.

3. Teenagers do not know what love is. We're too young to have girlfriends/boyfriends and we think we're in love. Yet we are too immature to know what makes a marriage last.
I am not commenting in here, I am sick of debating the meaning of "love". The word is now a twisted concept to me.

I'm not sure why you would think of it as a twisted concept. It seems like something many people would only understand with a bit more depth. Anyways, for this part, I agree once more.

4. Let other people have what they want. It doesn't make you weak. It in fact makes the other person weaker because they don't have the experience of obtaining what they want by their own effort. Just give them the answer to problem 6.
Heh...

This statement is completely true. I could not agree more with it! I follow this most of the times. In front of people, it makes you look like the better person. It makes the person who doesn't follow this rule look pretty stupid as well.

5. Follow the rules. There is no such thing as a stupid rule. Following rules will help you when you are a parent or manager or supervisor and you make the rules.
Without rules, we would be just shit-flinging monkeys, running naked and climbing trees.

Rules = Discipline = Production. Though some rules are complete bullshi and lead to not much at all.

6. There is a reason for everything. people are not born athletic, smart, or sociable. If you work at it, you get it. People are also not born selfish, hateful, or depressed. There is a reason behind that.
Your actions dictate your life, there's no one to blame but yourself.

There is a reason for everything, just that some are harder to explain. And that some inconviniences are harder to get rid of.

7. We care too much about the little things. Music, clothes, how far you sag your pants does not make you cool. Cool people are those who can lead, who are nice, and who help others.
True dat.

True.

when people say they're going to commit suicide, 9/10 times they're serious about it. ignoring them and saying "you aren't going to do it" without listening to them just makes everything worse.

I wouldn't say I'm judgmental at all but I am very selective with whom I befriend as I don't care for having thousands of friends. I'd much rather have 5 close friends than hundreds of distant ones.

2. When someone wrongs you, so what? When someone says F@ck you, how does that make you inferior or weak? So what if that person thinks you are stupid. It doesn't make you stupid at all. Its these little things that starts fights in school. So what?

I agree with this to some extent yet at the same time if you never stand up for yourself people will see you as an easy target and they will run over you and you will get sent straight to the bottom of the pecking order. It doesn't matter how good you think you are, if everyone else thinks and treats you as if you are inferior then you are inferior. There's no two ways about it.

3. Teenagers do not know what love is. We're too young to have girlfriends/boyfriends and we think we're in love. Yet we are too immature to know what makes a marriage last.

I may be an exception here because I didn't get into my first proper relationship until I was 18 but my views on love have hardly changed at all since then. Maybe I still don't understand it.

4. Let other people have what they want. It doesn't make you weak. It in fact makes the other person weaker because they don't have the experience of obtaining what they want by their own effort. Just give them the answer to problem 6.

I will help people get what they want but I will almost never give it to them. Why? because I don't want people to think they can take advantage of me.

5. Follow the rules. There is no such thing as a stupid rule. Following rules will help you when you are a parent or manager or supervisor and you make the rules.

Better advice would be to exercise good judgment. There are plenty of stupid rules.

6. There is a reason for everything. people are not born athletic, smart, or sociable. If you work at it, you get it. People are also not born selfish, hateful, or depressed. There is a reason behind that.

Unless you include both genetics and genetic predisposition in your reasoning then I disagree with you completely.

7. We care too much about the little things. Music, clothes, how far you sag your pants does not make you cool. Cool people are those who can lead, who are nice, and who help others.

It's the little things that make us individuals. If no-one cared about these things the world would be a very boring place.

And people who use the word "FUCK" on the internet are somehow better than those who don't?

Society has absolutely no say in my life. Society tells me to do what you want to whenever you want, break all the rules, and destroy those that get in your way. Me, I have self-control, I follow the rules, and I ignore those that get in my way.

Plus, I really don't care that you think I'm a loser. Lots of people do. So what?

Whats wrong with music and clothes? I dont appreciate getting led by people..

A teenager's perspective on life.

No, just your shitty perspective. Some of your points were valid I guess.

thats actually a myth, a really fucking stupid myth.

when people say they're going to commit suicide, 9/10 times they're serious about it. ignoring them and saying "you aren't going to do it" without listening to them just makes everything worse.

I speak merely out of personal experience. I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone mention suicide. It's kinda scary but to date I've never seen anyone go through with it. Most people just want attention; if they were serious then they wouldn't go around telling everyone.

I'm going to fucking rape this guy.

Hmm. We see eye to eye on most things.

Although I disagree with number five. Rules are meant to be analyzed, and eventually made obsolete, and then broken. People who follow blindly are only slowing down humanity. I'm not saying you should break rules should be followed blindly, but always watch the watchers.
