Ever since I got flash cs3 I've been very wary of it because its large, and much slower than flash mx. I run by the "if its not broken, dont fix it" policy.
So over the last month or so, I've been playing with the software and have slowly come to enjoy it. I have more options than I did with MX in terms of visuals and overall its much easier to get certain desired effects.
So imagine my joy when I finished my christmas cartoon and downloaded this years christmas preloader.
Huzzah, I thought.
But my joy was not to last because Flash had an error.
"Gee this must be the flash MX version of the loader. I guess they forgot to mention that!" so because I now had 100 new symbols that weren't doing anything other than slowing my pc down, I copied everything into a NEW file without the mx preloader not labeled as the mx preloader.
So to the preloaders page I went (as opposed to the christmas page) and downloaded a zip file of christmas preloaders.
OOH! One that works in MX and one that works in CS3. So I delicately place it into the first frame of my movie.
And now to export.
Whats this? AN ERROR? Something about buttons and actionscript and movieclips? Gibberish I dont fucking understand?
Oh Cs3! You're just like Mx in every way. Telling me things only a programmer can understand with shitty directions on how to fix it.
And so my cartoon SKIPS past the preloader automatically. What joy! WHO NEEDS A PRELOADER?
Certainly not the viewers at home!
Well perhaps a different one will work!
Lets see if that api preloader works. It is the newest version after all. Why, it should work perfectly.
WELL GOLLY GOSH GEE WILLIKERS!!!!!!! 10 ERROR LINES! Why this version is clearly superior! Instead of getting 1 error I get 10!
Well lets see what happens if I save it as a flash 8 file and send it to one of my friends with flash 8! Oh it doesnt work! Oh it opens but the text is all gone! Oh it opens but the api caused the pc to crash!
What wonders I have experienced this night.
And I just wanted to unfold my arms and give my most cherished thanks to both Adobe and whomever codes the NG preloader for ruining a christmas cartoon and destroying QUITE A FEW HOURS of my life.
Because I didnt need to spend all that time animating. I could have been masturbating or curing cancer or whatever the fuck else it is I do.
Merry Christmas to all
and to all a Good Night!!!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps switch the project Actionscript version to 1?
Hurhur you have no programmer friends. Wuss.
Sounds like you're using the AS2 version instead of AS3 (or vice versa), the NG preloaders all work fine for me.
Maybe if you posted the errors, rather than ranting on then we could help you. I think the preloaders are in AS2. All you have to do is switch the document to an AS2 one (properties > settings)
Oh hey its fixed.
lol
of course it still gets an error but the preloader is working
IGNORE ME
masturbating is funner than actionscript. Thats what I got from this thread.
