Well, haven't been here in a while.
Though since I've last posted here, I have discovered that sweet potato fries are gods gift to vegetarians.
I also cooked up a recipe for... well I'm not sure what it is exactly, but it's Alfredo pasta tossed in a white wine sauce with roasted vegetables. Feel free to PM me if you want it.

I've yet to taste a sweet potato fry. I really need to get on that. Also, if you don't mind, I just may PM you for that recipe; it sounds good.

Also to break the ice, I've been vegan for going on five months. I love it! Reason? Not into eating/using/contributing to the exploitation of fellow sentient beings.

Every animal needs protein, but not every animal eats meat.

:Chickens are the one of the most successful animals on the planet I say. The more humans eat them, the more there are.

Overpopulation is already an issue, just because evrbody's doing it doesn't mean it's "good".

With this in mind, if any of you want to save some sort of animal (opposed to just not liking meat :3) then just stop by at a burger king and order a panda-wich and eventually some commercial specialist will take note and we will start putting them in cages and eating them to.

wat

:However this may seem cruel, and I would never eat a panda sandwich, it will get them off the endangered list in a jiffy!

oh, though it is an interesting idea, but the idea that we would save a species just to make the rest of its existence miserable is retarded.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that although humans capture, mass breed, and eat animals, other animals capture and eat other animals as a part of nature, and our ancestors worked hard to get to the top of the food chain. Also, I am truly sorry if I have offended anybody, this is just my opinion.

Nothing to be offended about, but..

There's barely anything natural about being human if you compare it to other animals.
We have distanced ourselves away from the woods and the jungles, we have created our own environment, we can now live in any environment all over the world practically, breed our own livestock and we can avoid most of the natural selection dangers, which normally would keep our count in tact specie-wise in order for some balance.

Not trying to sound nihilistic, but we're spreading like a disease and there are not enough resources, nor the Earth can't take care of all the garbage we produce.

Argue about B12, protein is hella easy to get for vegetarians and vegans too. Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about, but nice try.

and people are not going to stop eating meat as a general public.

So? I don't care about what other people do, I just do what I want to do.

Chickens are the one of the most successful animals on the planet I say. The more humans eat them, the more there are.

Interesting. Though living in factory farms must suck.

I'm not sure that made sense. But it was probably funny.

Humans are above animals in capacity for empathy. That's why we have ethics and such.

Anyone have tips on becoming a vegetarian when you really enjoy meat?

I don't love meat. I know I can live without it. But when people offer it or if it's available, I'll always have some. Habit, y'know?

I'm going to a wedding reception/banquet tonight and hoping to start my meat-free lifestyle too. Wish me luck.

Every time I see the words 'eating meat' I laugh because it's loosely related to oral sex, which is funny. So yeah, this thread has been a barrel of laughs, and I would join but.

I don't know, why not just keep eating it? Otherwise you could go looking for fake meat products. Some taste crap, some taste good. My favorite was Quorn products.

Quick question, how do you personally treat animal non-meat products like cheese, eggs and honey?

Has any of you ever gone beyond vegan, into raw vegan kind of things?

Can I join? I've been vegetarian for 4 years now (actually, I'm pescatarian, I only really eat tuna. I don't like much seafood). I find there is actually a wide variety of vegetarian food available and it is so much nicer and easier to eat than meat. A lot of people I know are also vegetarian, which is awesome. I never used to like meat anyway, I didn't like the taste of most of it and I didn't like the idea of eating animals. I actually became a partial-vegetarian about 6 years ago, only eating pork and beef (I'm sure there was one more, I can't actually remember the names of meats now) as my parents didn't really want me to be vegetarian, then they gave me less and less meat and about 4 years ago stopped completely (with the exception of tuna occasionally).

Im a lacto vegetarian for about 1 and a half yrs. It hasnt been that long (especially compared to 16 yrs) but I feel much healtheir and rly enjoy not eating meat.

It has been quiet difficult living at home with a family who are big meat eaters & who love to bbq. I even have a family member that lives with us who is on an atkins diet.

Even with being around meat at meal times I never crave it, in fact I can barley stomach the thought of eating meat now. And deeply dislike the smell or look of meat.

Im planning to cut dairy off of my diet soon to become a vegan.

Oh cool. Never knew there was a club for this.

I guess you could call me a vegetarian. I don't eat meat or seafood of any sort. I do eat eggs, Jell-O, and dairy products however. I know that doesn't make me a vegan, but I'm still considered vegetarian, right? If not, I guess I could say I just don't eat meat like I normally do.

Vegetarian for 15+ years. Mostly vegan with some ova-lacto (select cheddar and mozzerella cheeses and very few eggs though; don't like em). Reasons mainly for animal rights and the environment. Also, for those daunted by bland veggie meals, all I can say is SPICE IT UP!:)... I'm also a cooking junky who's 6"4" and 240lbs. Peace.

I turned vegetarian on December 31st, it's kinda hard because I love the taste of meat and wasn't previously a big vegetable eater.
I've really been getting into the soya sausages, chicken style fillets, meat pies, etc.
I'm not a big fan of quorn but I'll buy it if it's on offer or something.
I turned veggie because I can't reconcile supporting animal rights with getting people to kill them so I can have some bacon.

Anyone know any vegetarian stouts? I'm really missing Guinness.
I've searched the internet but can't find any real alternatives except "sweet stout" which I'm not keen on.

In case anyone is interested I found Marks and Spencers own brand Irish stout today and it's pretty decent. Also all their own brand beers are labelled if they're vegetarian or vegan so you can be sure you're not getting any isinglass.

Hey, I was looking up vegetarianism through history today and was interested to find out Greek Mathametician Pythagoras was a vegetarian.
In fact until the 19th century vegetarianism was often called a Pythagorean diet.
