What type of computer would be best? Mac or PC I suppose is what I'm trying to ask. Anything more specific would be helpful too.

I just googled "Maya", and it looks like it's 3D design software. So I'd guess Mac because Macs are meant for Audio/Visual design.
Unless you have an extremely good PC.

But it needs to be a BEAST.
Maya is a memory hog and it needs a fuckton more to render.
Your computer will need to be FAST.

A PC will do fine.
Requirements depend on your intended use, if you just plan to use it to learn about 3d modelling you should be fine, but if you're looking to render full quality high res images then you may want to upgrade yo limiting factor.
