That's perfectly understandable in my opinion.
Not only is a bread bin more commonly called a breadbox outside of the UK and Ireland but they're not very common over the last few years and on top of that most people will, at some point in their adult life, find a common object or animal that they've never heard of before.
Asking questions would be perfectly acceptable if you didn't have instant access to pretty much all of the publicly available information in the world at your fingertips.
