Thanks to pox, I now have a place to share my beerventures with other newgrounders. I'm goin to try to share and review a new (to me) beer somewhat regularly. Let's give it a try shall we?
Tonight I'm gonna review a Red Hook winter ale, simply named Winter Hook(5.9% ABV). The reason I chose this beer is due to how relatively cheap it was, a lil over $7 for a sixer.
Paired with: homemade stroganoff
The Pour: The color is a dark amber with a wonderfully full tan head.
The Aroma: Hops definitely dominated the smell when I stuck my nose over the glass. It was backed with a somewhat smokey aroma.
The Taste: As the smell indicated, hops was surely the dominating taste, mixed in was a spicy caramel sort of flavor. The hops give this beer quite a bite and a lingering aftertaste.
Overall: When I got down to the bottom of the glass, the head had laced all the way to the top. Quite impressive. I quite enjoyed this beer. While it was rather bold in its flavors, it was still quite crisp. This is my first seasonal beer of the winter, and I must say that it fits quite perfectly. I felt like I should have been sitting next to a warm hearth while I was drinkin it.
Recommend?: While I'm sure this beer isn't going to fit everybody's taste, I would say that anyone wishing to broaden their palette give it a try this winter, especially if the price is right!
