Tom Clancy's EndWar 2008-11-15 16:27:03 Reply

So, Nov. 7 rolls around and I remembered that EndWar had come out. I ran up to GameStop and bought it, even though my Xbox is currently getting repairs. I went over to a friends house and hi-jacked his Xbox for a few hours and played EndWar. IMHO, I think that it is an amazing game, and may be the best RTS I have ever played, and trust me, I have played alot of them! I was wondering what you, the people of Newgrounds, think about EndWar.

Don't compare it to an RTS because the hardcore RTS fans will just kick you in the nuts for it.

It's a new kind of real time strategy. You command a battalion and not an army. You don't make buildings and play god or whatever, you just have the units you chose in your battalion and face them off against other battalions. The more you win, the stronger your battalion gets, and the more abilities you have.

And the Theater of War is the best part of the whole thing. Kind of like playing a really complex MMO risk game.

I guess you're right in saying that it's not like other RTS games... I was a giant AoM and C&C fan awhile back... Could we maybe classify as EndWar as a New era RTS, maybe? Maybe even just stratagey, but still. I would very much NOT like to get attacked by RTS fans. I haven't gotten to play theater of war yet, because I only just finished Prelude to War... The last battle took me 30 minutes for some reason, while practiclly almost every other battle that didn't have a time limit you had to survive for took me 3 minutes....

The prelude to war is like a story mode within the actual campaign mode. The real fun will come when you get to WW3. Theater of Wars is like the WW3 campaign only everyone is playing at once on the same campaign.

Ahh, I see. I made it to WWIII Mode, accidentally chose a battalion that I didn't want cuz it was evened out and I didn't want no balanced shit, upgraded my units, then let my friend play Call of Duty: World at War cuz he was at my house, and it was his Xbox, and he was complaining like a bitch..

I always chose the assault battalion, gives me 4 squads of each class. I wouldnt mind a create my own custom battalion tho. Casue then I wouldn't have as many artillery units cause in the end I only need one.

Yea, a custom battalion would be the shit. All I need to win is some riflemen, some artillery, and some gunships. When I first heard about EndWar, which is idk how long ago, when Rainbowsix Vegas 2 first came out, I was hyped up for it. People seem to have lost interest in it with the release of Fable 2, Fallout 3, CoD:WaW, GoW2, and other stuff... Tom Clancy games have always been the best games I've known... back on subject here, how difficult is Theater of War? Is there more than just 1 vs 1 game types? Can you team up with someone and do a 2v2?

Don't get all high and mighty about it being a new era of RTS, Company of Heroes did the whole "command a handful of units, no resource management" style thing a couple of years ago, and much better.

EndWar's still good though.

:OO I never heard of Company of Heros. But then again, two years ago I was living in a hole in the ground, with no internet or game systems. I would like to check this game out now. I quite enjoyed the resource management of the larger scale RTS games like C&C and AoM/AoE, but I like EndWar because it's more realistic. I guess it depends mainly on your style of play. I really like the WMD factor of EndWar though...i was playing it and I got one of my Uplinks crashed...first thing in my head was "You fucker...your getting nuked..." Godd addition, and plus the fact that yo ucant suse it unleess you are about to lose makes it better, because I was in a losing state and used it, and still lost. It's not like an instant revival.

is that that old ps2 game where you had to command about 4 guys in a middle east type setting? I found that game kind of hard, but interesting. Pain in the ass when one unit got killed. U had to pick his ass up and tell the guy to drag him all the way back to the start just so he could heal.

I'm not saying ENdwar is the greatest either but it's got a flavor of combat strategy that I like, and it actually makes you think compared to most rts's where all you had to do what get the right tech before someone else and you pretty much win the game.

Yea...that pissed me off about other RTS games. The tech was always numero uno. Makes me think of AoM. If you got a hella good godpower first, you won. You could level the cities in a matter of minutes...

Company of Heroes is a WWII RTS with an amazing graphics engine, deformable terrain, similar squad based combat (and similar scale) to endwar, etc, etc.

It's highly awesome, will be in a bargain bin near you, and is worth every penny.

It's a PC game. And I don't have a good enough PC to play it.

And the Voice command only works well for certain situations. Like if a units not in view point I'll just speak it. If my camera is on a certain unit I'll just use the controller.

Yea I like to utilize the voice command system and bark commands at my spetznaz =P. But I might have to start using my controller cuz I like to blare my music whilst playing games and its hard to do that with endwar and the voice command system...lol. I should try to find that game, but I doubt either of my comptuers are good enough to run it. One is fucking vista and the other is an XP that has been through so much shit that I think it may be emo.

I never was the RTS kind of guy in fact I never played a RTS game. I saw many things about EndWar but Cod WAW and GoW2 came out around the same time so I forgot about EndWar for a bit. I hope to get it in the future.

EndWar's still good though.

Company of Heroes did have resource management and you could build more units at barracks and whatnot.

as long as your infantry is in cover they're pretty much protected from anything other than artillery.

You can win a game with infantry, it's not impossible. But it would be really hard, and would require a high defensive tactic, because that's all they're good for. They can survive almost any attacking enemy while in cover. Or they can at least hold out the longest.

I'm usually an artillery bombarder, using my gunships for scouts, then trying to advance with my transports and tanks. It's a slow play but it works, and I use my infantry as defense, until its time to advance.

It's also good to play co-op since if gives you an easier chance to focus on certain strategies.
