Homeschooling is underrated 2008-11-14 12:36:39 Reply

When I tell people that I'm homeschooled, I get 4 common responses:

1. "You never get to be around people. It makes your social skills go down the toilet."
2. "You'll be sheltered your whole life until you go to college, and never be able to handle the harshness of life if you aren't used to it."
3. "Don't you think it's weird to have your MOM teaching you?"
4. "You never learn enough. You won't be able to get a good job."

Ahem, with homeschooling, all the time-wasting crap is removed. You can finish in a matter of hours and still get just as much done. Because of that, you have lots of extra time to be around people. And on top of that; you don't have to be "around people" when you don't want to.

Which....brings me on to the next point:

Yeah, we are certainly a lot more sensitive to it. But it helps in the long run. Someone who went through regular school and apparently "Felt the harshness of life" at a young age and grew up and when everything started to get bad, he was able to live through it! What a happy story.

But what you don't realize is someone who can't stand conflict is forced to do something.....they........FIX the problem! I could go into a lot more detail on this one, but I won't.

And for number 3, having your parents teach you. Well, when you get to about the 5th grade, all they do is give you a book, you literally teach yourself! But what about before you get into the 5th grade? Well, look me in the eyes and tell me it's a BAD thing for a kid 9 and below to spend more time with his parents!

And now, the big one. What is the main reason school exists? To get a job, right. It does seem pretty logical that going through the somewhat "laziness" of homeschooling could handicap this, but it truly surprises me.

As it turns out, yeah, I'll admit I sometimes feel like I'm being lazy. But one by one, all the homeschooled kids who never felt like they learned anything, gets some fancy job. A big family, homeschooled all their kids, the oldest is now in the Military, the second oldest works on computers, makes a truck load of money. Bottom line, I've never once seen a homeschooled kid who DIDN'T get a good job!

I bet you have some other complaint about it. And that's okay; I'm not saying it's perfect. Like, you can't really harness the power of a snow day, which sucks. And don't you dare think I'm trying to "Convert" anybody. After you get to around Jr. High, "switching over" would be very....how would I describe it? Awkward.

I loved every second of school.

It was just socialising with your friends, for six and a half hours a day, five days a week.

How can you complain?

I never looked at the fact that you'd finish you stuff faster and then have more time on your hands. Surely if you were being taught correctly you'd finish something early and learn more stuff?

Though I wouldn't have met some great friends then.

Yeah but when you are homeschooled, having sex with your teacher is totally weird.

I would say it depends on the parents.

I know I sure as hell am glad I went to normal school, keeping that note in mind.

Notice how he didn't mention friendship? He obviously has no friend and is too ignorant to see that.

I'm homeschooled and hell you can even not do alot of work then rush it in at the last minute (for me anyways) thus having a much longer vacation and why would I want a long ass job?

Normal school is full of phail and all it does is turn people into mindless zombies.

Homeschooling would be the best for me. Pretty much everything I've "learned" in school has come through self-teaching, mainly because I don't pay attention to a single word the teachers say. So in that regard, I might as well just stay home and watch the History or Discovery channels (which I do) all day long (not all day long...) to learn all the stuff I need to. School really isn't serving any purpose right now besides a reason to get me out of bed in the morning.

In my experience, everyone I've met whose been home schooled has been a social outcast and really wierd. But I guess there would be exceptions.

I think the idea of homeschooling is cool, a few of my friends are. I would hate it for me though, I once mentioned it to my dad and he said "Haha if you we're homeschooled there wouldn't be time for fun." and also I might not have as many friends as I do, nor a girlfriend. I still think it sounds awesome, though, especially since you won't have to deal with all those annoying and obnoxious people who get your whole class in trouble....damn public schools.

I am all for homeschooling .. Most homeschooled kids are smarter because the teacher "mom" or "dad" takes the time to makes sure they absorb everything.

And when it comes to socialization, put them in a place where they can acctually socialize like a self defense course or a kids club or scouts or any of the hundreds of other programs that kids can join.

ALSO homeschooling keeps the family together more and god knows that kids get into trouble when they dont have a strong bond with the famiy.

THAT IS ALL

It depends on the kid. Some homeschooled kids are never around other people, some are taught only one ideology and don't understand anything outside of their home. Others, like you, have healthy social lives.

Your social skills have gone down the toilet! I very rarely want to be alone especially during school time; and I dare say my social skills are quite good.

when i was in home school we were given supplies by a home schooling program. we did work and sent it to them to grade. they actually gave programs in which you would go to some building hang out with kids. we would usually learn art, drama and other stuff. they also acasionally take students go places just for fun. my sisters in the school and and went with them to go bowling. it even got me a day off school. and if thats not enough to prove that home school can also let you meet other people, they have live online chat rooms that to do work in. plus they give us a free mac to use except in summer.

By being home-schooled, you cannot find a girl to put your dick in. School is like a farm. Creating whores worthy of sex.

I was homeschooled until 1998.

Public school ruined me permanently, and I eventually developed schizophrenia (but I refuse to take meds).

If anyone has the option to be homeschooled, take it, and stick with it so you don't end up like me.
