Lets not bandy words about. This hasnt been a....great year for games. Alot of hype. Alot of disappointment. Alot of shitty shitty commercials. And the worst E3 in recent memory. Whether its been a new "create stuff" game that limits creativity, or a software giant buying another good small developer and tearing them (and their new much anticipated game) to shreds. Too many games marketed to grandmas. Too many short games. Too much eyecandy over substance. Too much shovelware from Ubisoft. And new sonic and spyro trash. ugh.

But these last 30/40 days have been some of the best we've had in rather a while. All 3 consoles are finally doing somewhat well.
Resistance 2 just came out. And it is fucking great. And still one of the prettiest games on the PS3. Left4Dead is coming out. The demo is nice. Its like a love letter to George Romero. New levels for Portal, fuck yeah.
Yeah some things have been disappointing. Banjo Kazooie turned out to be as bland as we all feared.

Upgrades to Team Fortress. Good downloadable indy games like World of Goo and Castle Crashers finally being released.
Gears of Fuckawesome War 2.

This is good times, gentlemen. And ladies.
I can indeed say I am satisfied. Playing Dead Space at a friends place and falling in love with the horror of it all.
Beating Gears of War on extreme hard mode on Co-Op with a friend. And then blaming him when he fucks up and gets us killed. And then wasting a few hours on De Blob and TF2.

We are living in a good and blessed time.

Rejoice!
Fun has finally arrived after a rather dire year!

Let us hope next year overall sucks less.

GTA IV didn't live up to its hype. Neither did Spore. etc. etc.

Although I still maintain that last autumn was better for games, what with Orange Box, Halo 3, CoD4, Mass Effect, GH3, Rock Band, etc, etc. But not by much, this autumn's still been very good.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was everything I'd hoped for, and more. Apart from that, yeah, there's not been much worth mentioning this year. I hate how everything good is released at Christmas, I never have enough money.

Apart from the disappointing games that didn't live up to hype, and people's unneccessary bitching and nitpicking about certain games, then I'd say 2008 was a pretty good year for video games.

I think the only bad conference at E3 was Nintendo's obviously.

I`m still waiting for mirrors edge (out today) and COD5, along with GTA:IV (since my brother broke my copy of the game)

Other than this, I agree with you. I can't wait until World of Goo 2: World of Cum is released.

This year was very dissapointing, especially when you compare it to 2007. The only games I'm looking forward to are Animal Crossing City Folk and Chrono Trigger DS.

Too bad my xbox fucked itself about one week before the tide of games, starting with fable 2, hit the shores.
