Whilst i may not agree with your opinion, I'll fight to the death for your right to say it.
That is the worst sound let alone music I have ever heard.

You sound like you were expecting to hear something you enjoyed. Death metal's a far cry from anything in your list of favourites.
As long as I can listen to it without the voices, it's good to me.
all music should be without voices.
Furries FTW

Wanna hear hardcore? Listen to Radiohead. Its sound isn't metal, but its raw emotion. That, sir, is what I call heavy.

No it's not.
Cannibal Corpse are exactly Death Metal, they're as Death Metal as Death Metal can be.
it's alright in extremely small doses i suppose, people who only listen to death metal likely have problems though

Death Metal isn't all about AARGH I'M SO HEAVY AND BRUTAL, it's about intricacy, and heavy metal fans are always exceptionally friendly. From what do you base this on?
Cores and Grinds and Deaths.
Why has this particular genre of music become plagued by such ridiculous and useless subgenres and categorizations?

Wat?
Sure, a lot of metalheads are friendly people, most people are friendly, and most metalheads are avarage people. But there is always that small group of assholes. And I've met plenty asshole metalheads.

I could tell you the difference between every genre. It's just something metal fans like to do, to define particular 'sounds' which are all quite different to each other.

Yeah I suppose there are always a few. But metalheads are all a bunch of long-haired hippies who like partying and going to concerts, and they were always the 'cool nerds' or the 'freaks' in high school who were always the nicest bunch of people. I just think, as a youth subculture, they're more approachable than the average, more friendly than the average, more talkative and more embracing.
Like other youth subcultures - goth, chav / wigger, emo kid, indie rocker, sports kid - none of them contain exclusively arses but they contain a bigger proportion than metalheads.
imo

Metalheads are usually ok people as long as you don't tell them if you like some other type of music.
Also, fun fact; goths are the most welcoming subculture for gays and lesbians, go figure.

I was going to say that I tihnk they are all just as friendly - then I remembered Neds. They aren't friendly at all. Sure, we've all been to a party of them before and found them friendly there, but you have to get into their inncer circle for them to be anything but abusive.

Can you imagine Death Metal vocals that weren't growled/gutteral?
The growls add to the music. Clean/Melodic vocals would be ridiculously out of place in Death Metal.
They aren't there to be "bad-arse" or "meaningful". How can the way they are sung make them meaningful anyway?
This signature makes use of various clichés and/or 'emotional' lyrics/quotes, hopefully it makes me appear deep.
Death metal is the bomb. lol

Research has shown that the way you say something is more important than the words you say, making how they are sung more meaningful than the actual words themselves.
It was on a pie chart I saw at work, that makes it official!
I think people jump to the conclusion that any kind of metal instantly means that the people who make it are satanists, and the people who listen to them are some sick cult satanists too. I could definitely agree with the whole "metal heads are nice people" comment, in fact a chick I work with showed up to a work meeting the other night with a "Slipknot" jumper on. This is a person with whom I frequently exchange "your mom" jokes with. I can quite safely say that I don't think she'll rip my face off anytime soon. :)

death metal is just some fucked up dudes screaming xD
People are talking about the growling, but, for example, Venom didn't growl. Often hailed as the pioneers of Death Metal, their lyrics are audible.

Venom were one of the pioneers of Black Metal. Not Death Metal.
But Venom themselves were Heavy/Speed Metal with a Black edge.

Shit, I forgot there was a difference. Oh well, I guess that's why I'm going to be hanging around Metal Hell, to learn about these things and get purchasing advice and the like. :D
Now I just have to wait for that first pay packet in January.

Try the first Suffocation album. It inspired a lot of what Cannibal Corpse did.
